Went on the GW site and they're blathering on about a Scourge of the Storm Campaign. Is this a new worldwide a la Eye of Terror or Nemesis Crown?

Some people play to win, some people play for fun. Me? I play to kill toy soldiers.

I'd be shocked if it was another world campaign as they have moved away from doing these. Besides, after Storm of Chaos, who would want to participate?

Here it is - http://www.games-workshop.com/stormofmagic

Looks like it's a campaign of some sort.

"Storm of Magic is released on the 9th July. The 'Scourge of the Storm' campaign commences on the 16th July."

Nothing further about it.

Yes, "Scourge of the Storm" is the campaign accompanying "Storm of Magic".
I posted it in the old now locked Storm of Magic thread:

I'm only vaguely familiar with global campaigns, but why has GW moved away from them? They sound like a great idea to me. What happened during Storm of Chaos? I hope these questions aren't bothersome, but I'm intensely curious about this subject.

GW moved away from them because it's essentially a clusterfeth to run.

Storm of Chaos had an outcome determined by the players actions (I.E. - how well each faction performed in reported battles) which didn't mesh very well with what GW wanted/expected, so they wrote a narrative of the outcome or whatever, and there were all these massive repercussions and everything, and then like 2 weeks later GW decided none of it actually happened, and that some weird warp storm sent everything back in time to before this all happened, and something else occurred as a result to prevent it from occuring in the first place and...

basically GW found a way to invalidate the outcome/results of the campaign because they were unhappy with the results, and made the all the fanbases work, effort, and time a waste.

GW moved away from the concept as a whole, because it was very hard to enforce no cheating (due in large part to their own flawed systems). It wasn't uncommon for people to create false accounts, etc. to 'pa their stats' and swing things in favor of their faction, not to mention themselves.

I would, considering how my side did back then!

Players have mixed feelings about the absent campaigns. On the one hand, the completely static nature of the setting is something that bugs a lot of players.

On the other hand... the Eldar were notoriously "rewarded" for doing quite well in the Eye of Terror campaign with the death of super-farseer Eldrad. It's hard to take GW's claimed interest in game results seriously when things like that happen.

Well, EoT just went to show how stupid GW was, claiming that if chaos won, Cadia would fall and guess what? Chaos was winning pretty well IIRC. Only which army had a codex coming up in a few months with a completely revamped plastics range? The Imperial Guard with a heavy Cadian overtone. Chaos sorta won, but somehow, Cadia still held out, a wee bit.

Now Storm of Chaos, that was a mess and it took a lot of BS and a really, really straight face to accept the outcome of that one.

I thought it was pretty hilarious when GW found out that GAMERS cheated on their global campaigns...."What? Gamers cheat??? Preposterous!!!"

They should have seen that one coming.

That would have required them to accept people playing their games for something other than just fun.

We're talking about a company that has done a number of editorials about how their games are meant to be played for fun over beers and pretzels and that tournaments are purely so people can meet up and ogle each others armies.

Based on the fluff, there may have been a plan to bring him back in a later storyline. But since GW quit advancing the storyline, at this point he's going to remain dead.

Until, of course, GW brings him back in the Eldar 10th Edition codex, striding out of a webway gate, dragging the shattered remains of a possessed Avatar behind him.
