I'm interested in starting WHF, still deciding on what army to pick, will be picking up the Wood Elves book tomorrow, but figured I'd get a head start as they may be my leading candidate! I'm a little familiar w/ 8th Ed. Have a copy, haven't read through it in detail, so bear w/ me...

This is list is also money-conscious as it's basically 2 Battalions, 1 cheap ($-wise) Lord, and then some expensive (but apparently critical from what I've been reading around) treemen
*list deleted*
Again, this list seems simple, only b/c it doesn't require much stuff to buy...any good? Need more trees? Thoughts and input? Once I read the army book in detail, I'm sure I'll be getting ideas of better lists...

Thanks!

2nd list now w/ some further understanding and $$ not taken in to consideration...

In my opinion, Great Eagles are better harassment units than Glade Riders. With the points saved you could increase your Dryad numbers (either more units or increase unit sizes).

I'm not really a fan of the all eggs in the vulnerable Glade Guard basket build, but if you want to do this build, you will probably want to focus most of your Glade Guard into a single unit and take a BSB with either the Banner of Eternal Flame or the Razor Standard to increase the damage output of your basket of eggs. If you don't want the basket of eggs build, then I would advise you to drop Rhymer's Harp, drop Aech the Banner of Springtide and to reduce Glade Guard unit size. With the points saved you can then field more Glade Guard or Dryad units.

Thanks for the input. I'm pretty sure I understand the utility of those changes you mention. Now, it's just a question of $$...

Being fairly new to Wood Elves, I'm not too experienced but an idea I've picked up from the tactics I've read is that it's good to have at least one unit that can take a lot of damage. Granted, there aren't many that can do that with wood elves but possibly a treeman could fill that gap. With the lore of life you could keep it alive while it pins down powerful enemy units. It also gives you treesinging which is nice. Quite expensive though.

I'd either up the glade riders to wild riders, or swap the lord for a war dancer lord. The glade riders are too soft for a melee character to get his full use.

Wardancer lord with 4+ ward, potion of strength, and blades of Loec is pretty solid. The unit can do the 4+ ward dance (they'll need it), and the lord racks up the combat res.
He's about 30 points more expensive, but as a hammer, far more effective.

My experience has been that wardancers don't hit hard enough without help from some character(s).
