I play Chaos Space Marines and they don't get Multi-meltas, but yet I have figures of CSM's that carry them. What happened they are multi-meltas?

To make a difference between spiky and nonspiky marines.

Same reason we dont get assault cannons or plasma cannons on normal non-oblit troops.

Also, to fit the fluff a bit more in the sense that they use mostly old "outdated" tech.

If you have a Chaos SPace Marine with a multimelta, it didn't come with it originally. Chaos have Meltaguns, but so far as I can recall they have never had multi meltas.

It's just one of the distinctions between Chaos marines and the regular sort, to denote their age compared to the loyalist Chapters. For the same reason, they don't have non-vehicle-mounted plasma cannons.

My first edition khorne devestators/havocs came with multi-meltas, just wondering why the were taken away in other editions.

As has been stated, variety's sake. You guys got autocannons though, which is cool.

Despite the fact that the new book places emphasis on the more recent treacher chapters which would have some of the more recent tech, but don't let facts like this get in the way.

You could use this fandex, Choose Icon of the renegade and you can use multi meltas and plasma cannons!

Chaos lost their Multi-Meltas long before they became 'just' spiky.

It's always better to forget the RT days when looking for fluff precedence as RT was a mess. They only started trying to rationalise the universe during 2nd Ed.

If you have to go all the way back to when Eldar rode in land raiders and Marines could carry shuriken catapults, that's close enough to, 'they never could do it,' for me.
