I got a relatively cheap Chaos marine tactical squad from Amazon recently and decided to paint them up as Nightlords. One thing has got me stumped; the icon bearer! From what I've read the Nightlords don't seem to follow any chaos god (as a chapter, more as individual marines). So what icon suits the Nightlords from the selection that comes from the box?

In all of the Night Lords books I have read, they see the descent to chaos as unwanted and un-needed in cleansing the corpse-god Emperor. However, if you wanted to choose a Mark and then give it a backstory, say give them MoN, they have a higher toughness because they've been in the thick of fighting for over 10,000 years. Something like that is all you need really, it doesn't necessarily have to be a God.

I'd give them a mark of undivided, because they're supposed to be pretty much fearless. You can just put a large Chaos star on the ground or something.

Thanks for that Marzooky. The books also suggested that to me, indeed Talos seems to frown on any kind of Chaos infection. I might even just build up the squad without the icon at the moment, not certain if I can afford to build up a whole army at this point in time. Might strip down some of my Black Legion though...

And carefully remove the symbol from the door and use that as an icon?
