I created some Ogryns using ogre bulls but I'm not particularly fond of the close combat weapons they hold in their left arms (club, sword...). I used IG auto-cannons with the barrels shortened and an assault cannon from a land-speeder in place of ripper guns and I'm happy with those. Instead of the CC weapons I was thinking about giving them some shields in place of flak armor (since the ogre bulls are basically naked except for that stomach shield). What I'm attempting to figure out is what shield I could use that would be large enough. Are storm-shields big enough or would they look almost buckler-ish? What about rhino doors? Or should I just go with plasticard?

Any suggestions would be helpful!

I was looking at some of the crimson fist rhino doors on ebay that would look really great with the ogryns. My only worry is that they may be too big...Does anyone know what the size would be like?

Big, yes, but the ogryn should still be able to see over the door top, which is all that matters.

I too like the idea of improvised shields. A variety would be good. Hmm, are there any suitable IG vehicle doors? Or if you have spare vehicle bits on your bits box, a shield could even be part of a vehicle panel (cut apart with a welding torch by the IG field engineers). To avoid the shields looking too orky, be sure to decorate them with IG patriotic slogans/symbols.

So I have 5 ogryns to equip...

2 of them could having Rhino doors.

1 having a plasticard reinforced steel door ripped from its hinges (from maybe a destroyed bunker...).

So i would need 2 more... Anyone have any good ideas? Vehicles that would have good doors? Something i could make from plasticard?

And Clang I will definitely litter it with purity seals and the like, good idea.

If you don't mind 'looting', the ork battlewagon comes with a pile of vehicle doors, a bit smaller than rhino doors but would look the part as shields.

Or just make generic metal doors/hatches from plasticard and whatever detail bits you have around.

Hmm, some of the Cities of Death terrain might be useful too, if you don't mind sanding the backs to make it thinner.

The GW crates sprue has a nice square lid that could be ideal too.

How about half an oil drum? wouldn't have the same balistic stoping power as an armoured door but it might look cool?
