I've played some 40k tt but the fantasy looks really neat and I've wanted to get into that too. I doubt I'd find anyone who plays it near where I live but that's aside from the point.

I'm trying to decide between Dwarves and Tomb Kings, but I don't know much about either since I don't own any books yet. Could anyone tell me anything about these two to help my cause. In 40k I play Tau if that means anything.

I play tau also and am getting into fantasy, but i am going for high elves (me and my friend are splitting the islands of blood box). One thing i do know is that tomb kings have being recently updated so will probably be more up to date.

Tomb kings are shooting and magic oriented. Dwarfs are shooting and combat oriented. Dwarfs are the only race that cannot use magic, so if you want to participate in the magic phase skip them. However their magic defense is extremely strong and they can pretty much shut down their opponents magic phase. I've read battle reports for tournaments where dwarfs in 4-8 games only let through maybe 3-5 spells usually due to them being cast with irresistable force. Dwarfs also have the best base leadership for their troops then any army in the game, leadership is important for passing various tests like fear tests, and panic tests. There are also a few ways to play Dwarfs competitively as well, a typical gun line with shooting core units and war machines, ambushing dwarfs utilizing a combination of scouting rangers to start the game within 12 inches of the enemy, miners that come up on the enemy board edge and an anvil of doom to allow charges the turn they show up, also a combat oriented dwarf army is also good for 10 pts, you get a great weapon dwarf with WS4, S5 and T4 as well as heavy armor, for 12 pts you can get a hammerer with WS5, S6, and T4 using their great weapons. The rune system is also cool, instead of getting access to specific magic weapons they can customize their armor, weapons, talismans and war machines think of it like jewelcrafting if you have played World of Warcraft. I wish I could offer more info on Tomb Kings but my army book is now dated and I haven't had a chance to read the new one or play against them.

Thus, After having thus successively taken each member of the community in its powerful grasp and fashioned him at will, the supreme power then extends its arm over the whole community. It covers the surface of society with a network of small complicated rules, minute and uniform, through which the most original minds and the most energetic characters cannot penetrate, to rise above the crowd. The will of man is not shattered, but softened, bent, and guided; men are seldom forced by it to act, but they are constantly restrained from acting. Such a power does not destroy, but it prevents existence; it does not tyrannize, but it compresses, enervates, extinguishes, and stupefies a people, till each nation is reduced to nothing better than a flock of timid and industrious animals, of which the government is the shepherd

Automatically Appended Next Post:
also with tomb kings compared to dwarvs you have access to just about every aspect of the game (powerful magic, hordes of troops, monsters etc etc) dwarvs are much more linear

If you are having problems finding people near you to play with you could always try online.

Dwarves are like empire with less options. I would choose tomb kings personally, they have a lot more options and up to date rules.

Dwarves can actually play in many different ways - very combat oriented, massacring gun-lines or completely tooled up characters (loads of runes= amazing stats)
, which is a great advantage. The models are great and the fluff means that you can make awesome conversions. There are many other companies that make cool dwarven models i.e Scibor. The fact that you can have good characters and the troops are expensive( but good value) when tooled up/ upgraded means that you can have quite small armies (model wise) and this means that an army can be cheaper and easier to paint. The cheese value can go from mild Philidelphia to Stinking bishop ; with "codex creep" one can't say the same for tomb kings, which are just

I think I may end up going Tomb Kings with all of this info in mind. Since one of my friends maybe getting Dwarves if he plays.

So despite my love of Dwarves I think I'm going Tomb Kings. It'll be neat to have an army like that and I can do that storm of magic easier.
