Just finished Mechanicum. The ending left a huge cliffhanger. At the end of the book, it had an Addenda that reads:

"TEN THOUSAND TEARS would pass before the next Guardian was drawn to the Noctis Labyrinthus, but by then the damage had been done."

My questions are:
What damage?
Is this lectern somehow related to the awakening of the Necrons?
What happened to Dalia?
Who is the next guardian after her?
What happened to the book?

I would also like to know, what happened to Maven and Cronus? They are the last two knights of their Order, did they rebuild the Order?

I will forever remain humble because I know I could have less.
I will always be grateful because I remember I've had less.

Just finished reading 'At What Price Victory'

It's a collection of short stories. In one there is a lectern placed by the Deciever as a trap. Pressing it awakens Necrons.

It would be freaking hilarious if this Lectern is something similar

Who cares, one-dimensional characters that made up the rest of the book had more depth.

"'players must agree how they are going to select their armies, and if any restrictions apply to the number and type of models they can use."

This is an actual rule in the actual rulebook. Quit whining about how you can imagine someone's army touching you in a bad place and play by the actual rules.

It is rumored that Necrons exist on Mars, hence why it's laddened with technology.

WTH is the Void Dragon?

In the 'vision' it's a phyiscal manifestation that the Emperor defeats. However, why is it only just a person and a guardian left to protect it from getting out? I don't know... this part of the book completely is useless and lost me

Its not the Void Dragon. The Internetz insists on addiing the Void..

Its the Dragon. One of the four surviving C'tan. It resides on Mars. One side of the fluff (more recen, but BL) claims the emperor punted him there and imprisoned him. The older fluff from the Necron codex seems to more indicate a Necron Stasis Tomb. Either way, he is under the Noctis Labarinthus on Mars. There are some fairly heavy hints that he is the Machine God, and it is mentioned in the fluff that before the Emperor got going on his Crusade the Cult Mechanicus worshipped a darker, creepier deity. There are fluff hints that they still do..

The C'tan are incarnate energy beings that were worshipped as Gods by the Necrontyr, who later became the Necrons. The Deciever (another one) rather likes being worshipped as a God (it feeds his ego) and has set himself up as a deity in several primitive cultures.

As a vision these things can be metaphorical. It could as easily have been a battle of wills, with the Dragon trying to wake from stasis, and the Emperor trying to stop him. Dreams have a habit of not being literal

Lexicanum is posted by fans, you realise that? If you repeat something enough times it tends to stick, even without a reason.

The Void bit has been tacked on without ever (as far as I can tell) being used in conjunction with the Ctan known as the Dragon. Read the Necron codex. No Void there, despite the fact that Lexicanum lists it as being in there as the Void Dragon

Find me a piece of official fluff that refers to the Dragon as the Void Dragon, and i'll concede the point due to retconitis.

The Void Dragons are an eldar pirate fleet. Do you really thing they'd name themselves after a Yngir?

Automatically Appended Next Post:
Lexicanum 's entry is otherwise quite useful, for general background, though.

Sorry if i seem a bit ranty, but the Void Dragon moniker bugs me.

It would be a bit like callling Marneus Calgar something like Mark McCalgar

What's up man, how's it going?

http://forums.vr-zone.com/pc-games-haven/97539-warhammer-40-000-dark-crusade-background.html

This is one of the only places I can find the Dawn of the C'tan fluff-piece after GW took it off their site.

"Patience! This is brought to light in the knowledge I am about to impart. There was a time, before even the birth of Humanity, when the Eldar fought hard to stop the works of the Necron gods, who they called Yngir. One of these, the most powerful of its kind, was exterminating the Eldar. They named it the Void-Dragon, Oblivion itself, a figure of wanton destruction and devastation in Eldar mythology. It had such mastery over the material realm that its warriors were practically invincible. Just one of its servants could slaughter hundreds of Eldar before falling, only to rise once more. They could channel lightning into their foes, and it is said the battlefields of that time were thick with the charred remains of those that dared oppose them."

Interesting stuff. Thanks for the link.

I've not run across that story before When did they take it down?

It was written as a background piece to the DOW games?

No problem.

I cannot tell you when they took it down, actually, I only heard about it and searched for it myself. Lexicanum links to GW's site, but the link is broken now.

I think so, yeah, was done to correspond with Dark Crusade I guess.

Fair enough then.

It still bugs me, as the Dragon is never once given the Void Dragon title in the codex or any other fluff i've encountered him in, but i'll concede as promised due to Retconitis

Roll on new codex! I want to read the new fluff, even if it is written by *shudders* Ward

Well, as far as I understand it, in Mechanicum it is called "The Dragon of Mars," and is not quite outright stated to be the C'tan, just heavily, heavily, heavily implied to be, though I have yet to read the book, which kind of makes me a douchebag for naming myself after it, lol.

Well... Don't you know? The Void Dragon is now a special jetbike that a Necron Lord can ride in battle.

He is referred to as the Dragon of Mars, the Dragon etc a lot. The codex is also big on the heavy implications rather than the outright admissons, but i think we can pretty much assume it's him, given the necron symbols all over the walls...

Well, yeah, the Necron codex was designed to be akin to a Cosmic Horror Story, which was probably my favorite thing about it, although admittedly the Necrons themselves perhaps suffered from this, not getting as much exposure as the C'tan did in the fluff.

While the idea is hilarious... Eh, you have heard the rumors right? About the C'tan being killed off by the Necrons, and the remnants of their power being made into war machines? I am hoping what was meant is that the devoured C'tan had shards left over that were made into weapons, but if the Big Four is included... Well I might stop playing Necrons.

I like the lovecraftian space-horror theme myself. I'm betting they become more like the bot armies from Star Wars, only insane, and that is far less cool to me..

I've heard them, and given Ward's track record as a rewriter of canon fluff..

I'll see how they turn out first, but it will take some serious handwaving to rub the 4 big ones out of the background...

Yeah, is awesome. Necrons becoming the generic droids is not awesome. And Deceiver help Ward if he does something horrible like *gasp*, give the Necrons a battle-cry.

Well, to be fair to Ward, a change like that is probably not entirely his own doing. GW would likely be more to blame.

Wait and see, i guess...

As far as i can see from his other books he seems to have carte blanche to write as he sees fit though, otherwise some of the more egregous (sp.. love the word, but can't spell when i'm this tired ) errors/contradictions/stupidities would have been winnowed out..

Unless the worst ones already were. Scary thought that.

Well, Ward IS a bad writer, no doubt, in that the guy can't write for crap.

Though that does not necessarily mean he is responsible for every change.

But meh. Will wait and see, is supposed to be out in October, in time for my birthday.
