Well, hello again!

Time to start my own blog after a long while being lazy and not doing anything, so hopefully this will keep me going through the summer, and hopefully some of you might be interested. The reason for the title is in a week's time I am going to the Gaeltacht (Its a sort of school where you are immersed in the Irish language and learn how to speak it well etc.) for three weeks and I won't be able to update anything for a while, so here goes!

I've been painting my Eldar Jetbikes recently, along with a squad of gretchin for the beginning of my Ork army and I have partially assembled a 1/76 scale Sherman tank.
On with the pictures!
My shuricannon jetbike, well, the beginnings of it...

Sort of a conversion using an Avenger body and flag and all.

ROLL ON DA GROTZ! With my own attempt at bases

Thank you for reading!

Hello again, this blog is getting off to a slow start so let's see what I can do about that.
I'm in London today, so I've bought some Finecast "Ohhhh!" Actually it's not like that its more like "Hell thats alot of flash and bent chainswords..."
I bought Striking Scorpions and a Zoanthrope to see what they are like.

Scorpions first:
Pic of the sprues

This Scorp was of the sprue, a nice moulding, but flash is everywhere

Flash, need I say more, this will take a while to clean

One bent out of shape biting blade and a scorpion!

Exarch and a scorp covered in flash

I suppose once I clean the flash the models will look better, no bubbles or miscasts thankfully, how will I bend the chainswords back in shape? Anyone know?

I'm not going to post pics of the Zoey yet as I have a metal model of one at home, I'll be doing a review so watch this space!

I got some Revell kits today aswell, a Corsair, and an Me 262! both favourites of mine:

Found pics of my jetbike wip, my first attempt at the OSL technique, so C&C is very much needed please:

I read somewhere that running hot water over any of the finecast stuff you want to bend into/out of shape should soften the material enough. It was very much stressed not to leave any piece sitting in hot water as this will completely warp it and it will not come back into its proper shape.

@bunnygurl, thank you for that! Just the tip I needed.

@Asherian Command, thanks mate!

Okay, I don't have pictures this time but on closer inspection almost all my scorpions had bubbles by the crotch plate and backside, well at least it wasn't in an obvious place!

A small update, My scorpions are now on their bases, mold lines removed and all that jazz. For Eldar players who have scorps, a quick question: What is the best way to arm my exarch? Chainsabres, Biting Blade, Scorp Claw?
Anyway here's how they look:

I unboxed my Zoey last night... I was not impressed, The front of the upper body was miscast! and I got two of the same right arms for the body, no left arms! So I phoned up GW customer services and a new one is in the post to me currently. I'm pleased with that at least.

Comment please, and any tips to help me is appreciated is welcome, thanks.

Isn't the whole idea of Finecast supposed to be that they're not miscast like alot of the metal ones? I mean, I know s happens but for something so 'superior' I haven't heard all too terribly much good about it...and yet I'm still bouncing off the walls wanting to get some for myself.

Metal VS Resin Review Part 1

Alright here we go on my review of metal VS finecast Zoey:

Studying the parts
There are no pictures of this stage, but I will try to describe as best I can...
FINECAST: There was a lot of flash covering the model, with pieces bent out of shape, and a rather large hole on the upper torso (see picture posted above). I got two of the same arms and none of the other... Who packs these models?
METAL: Minimal flash, no pieces bent out of shape, no miscasts at all, everything is in order.
I don't see any differences between the models that GW claims...

Assembly
FINECAST: A nice easy assembly, super glue just loves the material and most of the model was assembled in fifteen minutes.
METAL: Easy enough assembly, required pinning between lower and upper torsos, broke once, but overall ok.
The finecast was better for it's ease of assembly but it seemed too light (even flimsy) compared to metal and even plastic!

Some pictures of comparison now:

Part 2 of the review will be up soon when I paint them!

@Scrazza, thank you!

Update time!

I got more work done on my jetbike, I think it'll be a Jetlock or a Jetseer, but we'll see what happens. What do you think on my attempt at gemstones? How's the colour scheme?

An Infinity model now, I changed the colour scheme so C&C appreciated

I'm back! Well, back a week now and I'm only getting around to posting pictures now, my bad...
In the week I've been back, I got a good bit done (At the speed I paint anyway). I'm making a mycetic spore for my 'nids, I don't have any pictures of that yet but WIPs will soon be on their way!

Without further writing I show my Doom Of Malan'tai. It's still wip so please give some C&C!

My finished Zhanshi, again C&C appreciated:

Now finally, a few ork boyz, I can't decide which shade of green I like best, so I'm leaving it open for the dakkanauts to decide. Please comment on which you like best and why:

UPDATE

My Doom Of Malan'tai is finished! I'm really happy with it, what do you think?

So today I tried out my airbrush... I failed badly, I watered down the paint too much but what can a newbie to airbrushes do? Please give me some pointers as to how to use my airbrush well.

Thanks for reading!

I rather like your Doom of Malan'Tai. It's a nice and simple conversion but you can tell that it's not an ordinary Zoanthrope.

About the airbrush, I've found that a paint:thinner ratio of about 1:1 or 1:1.5 works well, just make sure to spray it on in thin layers and wait for it to be visibly dry before you add another coat. For the thinner itself, I personally wouldn't recommend thinning Citadel paint with water because it gums up the airbrush and it's a pain in the neck to clean out. What I use is alcohol, either Isopropyl alcohol like Tamiya X-20 Acrylic Thinner or Methylated spirits. Isopropyl alcohol is probably the best one to use because the Metho is quite strong and if it pools on top of another layer of paint it can soften or even re-animate the paint underneath. Metho is generally cheaper though and is fine as long as you do it in thin coats. Metho is also great for cleaning out the airbrush and stripping acrylic paint from metal and plastic without harming either (not sure about resin though). Alcohol thinners also help the paint to dry faster, and blowing on the paint makes it dry even quicker.

Just a tip, when spraying with Citadel paints it's probably best to clean the airbrush out every time you use up all the paint in the cup, even if you're going to put more of the same colour in the cup. When I clean my airbrush I half-fill the paint cup with metho and spray it into a bucket with an old rag in the bottom, then use cotton swabs and tissues soaked in metho to wipe the remaining paint out of the cup. If you have a double action airbrush you'll need to clean the pin and the nozzle as well. Cleaning the airbrush is a bit time-consuming but it's worth every minute, especially if you have a double-action airbrush. And be aware that when cleaning the airbrush with any alcohol (especially metho) make sure you're either outside or in a rather large room because it will make you dizzy. Or give you a headache. Or both.

Oh, and with the orks, I like the skin of scheme B but the overall colours of scheme A.

HTH mate

I much prefer Ork "A".

The question isn't why do I kill. The question is, why I don't kill everybody.
