Since Heavy Weapon Team poses are a hot topic on the forum right now, I thought I'd share this conversion article I wrote 2 years ago for BoLS.

Sitting, kneeling and prone poses done for visual interest and variety. The sitting pose was inspired by a friend of mine who is an army veteran who pointed out to me while I was working on these and looking for inspiration that machine gun practice in the army is done sitting down. Converting the legs to sit on the ground would have required a lot more time, cutting and sculpting so I compromised by having the one fellow sit on a sandbag. It was simpler and quicker to have him slightly elevated like that.

Bottom one's great. Can't believe I never thought of using those legs to make a prone gunner.

To save on kneeling legs, I always have one guy standing and the other shooting. That way I can have twice the heavy weapon team out of the same box. Plus I know have some guys with bionics, binoculars, lasguns all in different poses.

If I can add to the general topic I agree totally that the current weapon team kits allow massive scope for conversion into mini-viginettes. A couple of my own below:

I've actually got some paint on them now, but I think they show how you can swap out the overly large GW Heavy Bolters for something that looks a bit more to scale. Besides, a section of .50 calibre HMGs is visually way more impressive.

Flinty, how did you do that underslung GL on the Heavy bolter spotter?

Here's one I did last summer; it's meant to be a tank crew that bailed from their tank and took cover in the wreckage:

@Warmastersolon - By cheating I've been using Hasslefree CAD guns for my Guard infantry. It comes on the weapon.

I did this one in 2006 when I built and painted the bulk of my IG army. Bazooka team behind the berm. I HAD to do it.

Here is one of my cut-down autocannons, for use in infantry squads:



Here it is next to an unmodified autocannon (which is part of a seperate HWS)



I've built urban bases for the infantry squad guns, and sandbag emplacements for the heavy weapon squad ones. In the middle of painting them now, hope to have some pictures up soon.
