...and some other old junk.

Skalk Bloodaxe has been VERY politely encouraging me to get some pictures of my stuff posted here on Dakka. Well, here's my inaugural pics post.

This is all because Daichallar loaned me his old copy of Dawn of War, and last night I discovered how awesome Dreadnoughts are in that game. I fell asleep and dreamed about Dreads. I woke up and felt the immediate urge to PAINT DREADNOUGHT NOW. But not in that scary red Blood Ravens scheme, no no. Nice, soothing, dulcet tones of Space Wolves Grey. My main 40k force is either Space Wolves or Tyranids, depending on the time of day you ask. So I had a dread all ready to go, just slightly converted from the Black Reach box. I've got the old metal Bjorn the Fell-Handed, too; he'll get the Treatment shortly.

Anyway, here:

I'm really happy with this guy. Yes, the base isn't done, I'm prepared to take some heat for that. It's coming. Meanwhile, he's an ancient hero of Fenris resurrected to roflstomp your facebones!

Side view:

Other side:

This model was one of the most enjoyable things I've painted in forever. It's actually pretty atypical of my painting style; I am the laziest painter you've ever met. Precision brushwork is something I can sort of do, as this model hopefully attests, but I am a big fan of basecoats, drybrushes, and washes.

This was all I was going to post, but I found some old stuff that I don't actually own anymore. But it's stuff I painted and fun to look at anyway:

Black Legion Berserkers. Squad of 8. Why just 8? Read a book.

Converted Daemon Prince. I LOVED this model. It's Battle Brother Artemis from the inquisitor line, with some Balrog parts and I think Orion the Wood Elf King's slightly mangled spear. A few spiky bits and hey presto, big massive thing to get lascannoned into poop. But he was darn fine to look at, even if his lazy minimalist Black Legion paintjob was less than stellar. I'd rather convert than paint any day.

So, that's probably enough for tonight. I should get some sleep. Hope you all enjoyed my models!

Hey this is nice stuff! I like your chaos models but, I loathe the AoBR dread so much (the model, not your paintjob). Your painting is very neat.

Also, the base on the dread is ... Well, you know.

@AesSedai- Really? I love the Black Reach models. None of them are anywhere near as good as the regular counterparts, but my first GW box game was the 5th Edition of WHFB, which came with Lizardmen and Bretonnians (WTF, GW??), and they were all tragically similar and static. And the base is done, the glue is drying, pics forthcoming shortly!

@Trondheim- Thanks!

That's an excellent paint job. I'm looking forward to seeing it in person as I am sure the photos don't do it justice. Clean highlights and solid work on the decals (they are decent!). Great shading on the power cables. I'm just psyched to see you on Dakka sharing your work. You have some much awesome stuff, really looking forward to seeing more from you.

You had Berzerkers??? Dare I even ask what became of them?

I'm afraid that's what matters most. If better models are available, that's where the real comparison lies. They have come leaps and bounds from the 5th Edition of WHFB box and the box sets are getting better and better. BR infantry can be mixed into standard models easily, a dread however stands out...and not favorably imo.

@Skalk- The Berserkers got eBayed a few years ago, along with the rest of that Black Legion force. Sad but true. It could have been yours, but you weren't playing then anyway. But I'm glad you like the dread! I want to shoot your stuff with it soon!

@AesSedai- Excellent point. What is it about the dread model in particular that bothers you? I'll admit that I'm not thrilled with the multi-melta itself, and the cooling stacks on the posterior power plant suck too. The pose is boring... Why do you not like it?

It's small.

Nice Stark words, by the way.

I threw up a little when I read that they got eBayed. Oh well.

I like the AoBR Dreadnought because it's so easy to convert:

Feldenglas, that's a solid paintjob on your AoBR dread. I actually really dig the two-tone CCW.

@Moltar, thanks dude. It's a recurring theme with the power fists in the army, which I hope to show soon. Going to start a Space Wolves painting blog in short order!

Dread looks excellent! How was the armour colour done?

Hey Popsicle, the armour was the easiest part. Flat black primer, basecoat everything Shadow Grey, and then two successive but extremely light drybrushes of Space Wolves grey. Who says you can't drybrush marines?
