Hi there,
Warhammer Forge’s range already includes an abundance of great models and this week’s new release is no exception. The Dreadquake Mortar, the largest Chaos Dwarf war machine Warhammer Forge has yet released, is now available to pre-order. As well as details of this stunning new addition to our range, we also have an events update for you for the rapidly approaching Games Days in Chicago and Germany.

Chaos Dwarf Dreadquake Mortar

The massive and terrifying Dreadquake Mortar is amongst the largest and most devastating of the siege engines fielded by the Dwai Zharr. Akin, in appearance at least, to the bombards used by other races, the Dreadquake Mortar uses a vast boiler to generate steam pressure to fire its munitions. The sorcerous energies bound within these immense, volatile shells explode on impact, striking the battlefield like a hammer blow and causing untold devastation.

The Dreadquake Mortar is a huge war machine; a colossal mortar mounted upon an arcane steam carriage. The Mortar itself, designed by Tim Adcock and Keith Robertson, measures a mighty 8" long and towers over its four Chaos Dwarf crew figures and even its brutish, enslaved Ogre Loader.
Experimental rules for this mechanical behemoth are available to download from the Forge World website, and are taken from the forthcoming Warhammer Forge book Tamurkhan: The Throne of Chaos. The Chaos Dwarf Dreadquake Mortar is available to pre-order now for despatch in the week commencing 25th July.

Warhammer Forge at a Games Day near you!

The full range of Warhammer Forge products released so far this year will be on sale at Games Day Chicago on 30th July and Games Day Germany in Cologne on 7th August.
Both shows will have the Chaos Dwarf Hellsmith show only model available to purchase alongside Forge World’s MkIII Armoured Boarding Space Marine.
Mark Bedford will be joining Forge World model designer Will Hayes at Games Day Chicago, while Warhammer Forge sculptors Steve Whitehead and Keith Robertson, as well as graphic artist Sam Lamont, will be attending Games Day Germany. We look forward to seeing you there!

I don't like it. Can't quite put my finger on it. I think it's the Dwarves and the Ogre that throw this off for me.

I suppose it could work for an Ork lobba or something.

That thing is ugly as sin. Overcrowded with machinery, and the crew figures are lousy too, especially the ogre. Doesn't seem to fit with the rest of the train pieces.

We'll have to agree to disagree here - I think it is quite nice!!

The Ogre could use some 'Chaos Dwarfing' in terms of look, maybe, but then, he's a slave, so...

I don't know, maybe it's the paint job that's making me think that way. Certainly, the ogre could benefit from being ogre-colored. Or, is that the new studio scheme for ogres?

It looks pretty average. I'm not a huge fan of the paint job on it.

Maybe it's the paint, Alph. Not sure. I definitely don't like the ogre, though. Perhaps substituting one of the Ogre Kingdom Ogres and/or throw some chain on him so show he's a slave.

I don't play fantasy anyway, so it's no big deal to me. Like I said, I think with propper grubbins the Orks could make a fun Lobba out of it or something.

I took photo's of this minus the crew and the paint last september at UK Gamesday, I really liked the way it looked so I'm guessing its the paint, the dwarves and the ogre look too pink like they've just got out of a hot bath, I'd like to see em less pink with a bit of the grime and muck you might expect from crewing a war machine.

Now that you guys mention it, the paint job is definitely NOT helping it out at all.

And I like the changes to the Ogre suggested by kronk too...

Nicely done!

This would be a nice model for a WW1 setting, but I see no connection to fantasy except for the crew. So I pass. It's CHAOS Dwarfs, not Steampunk Dwarfs for Christ's sake! Where are the daemon engines?
(and yes, the paint job is below average).

I'm glad to see some of the CD stuff painted, but I will agree with the consensus of this being rather uninspired.

And well said, KH! Daemon-engines should be more... daemonic.

I will have to agree, I mean the model is OK I suppose, the paintjob is kinda bleh...but for the price, I would expect more

I much prefer this style to the goofiness that is the Hellcannon.

The paint job and the Dwarf with horns are bringing it down.

I do love the fact that it is a car on a train.

Crappy paintjob is really hurting my ability to like this model...

I think "crappy" is kinda harsh. It's just really basic for a FW model.

I think the musculature on the Ogre is far more convincing than the regular OK plastics, at the very least.

I like it. The crew are fine, and the engine itself is wonderful.

Look past the paint job to the overall incredible awesomeness of the Chaos Dwarf army as a whole, and this model in particular!

I like it. It's mostly the paint job that brings it down. Although the ogre is in a very un-dynamic pose. Heck that mortar doesn't even look heavy, the way he's lifting it.

It probably isn't heavy - for an Ogre!

Just hold on a minute there.

Are Chaos Dwarfs actually getting a fethin' train? I mean, they have a lot of evil looking things on wheels, but the Mortar actually looks like it should be pulled by something. On rails. Is there a full list for this army yet?

I'm still not a big fan of Warhammer Fantasy, but I love where this is going.

Pretty much, yes. These mortars are pulled by the Iron daemon.

yphead over at Warseer got this reply from FW:
"With regards to the Tamurkhan, Throne of Chaos book, do to some artwork delays, it is not yet at the printers. We expect it to be released in September or October this year. With regards to the Bale Tauros and rider, the rider has not yet been finished, so we don’t have a release date for it yet. However, i would imagine that it may be a similar release date as the book."

Unless the rules change, it's not an especially threatening war machine considering the point (and price) cost.
