Very nice!

Any reason why it isn't posted here, maybe as an article?

Paper terrain.... I'm not sure how durable it could be? but If the author said his "paper terrain" is more durable than conventional ones made of styrofoam (i HATE this material! it's really fragile and environmental bane! and its rubbing sound frightens me). but since those hard paper things are still prone to water (including any kind of moistures), Do the author tells us about the "process" that needs to be done before applying decores (grass, sands, gravels, etc..) in order to strenghten the terrain piece itself. and the highest possible strenghs the "hardening" process could made? will the terrain piece be as durable as plasticard?

I need to know this so I can begin practice on making a blockhouse and field fortifications for my IG army

I'm not sure if you read the whole thing .

Its not "paper" as such , its corrugated cardboard .

Heavy plasticard is better if you can afford it and have the practice at useing it , but this process is cheaper . and still quite durable . the goal was for people who dont have the tools to cut wood or plasticad skills .

Its a process of layering . The Construction adhesive isnt as rigid as plasticard would be , and its slightly flexible when done thinly . The thicker you make it , the harder it will be , but it is intended to act as a base coating , to protect the cardboard , then coveered with other basing materials or surface treatments .

The waterproof factor depends on how well you coat it . Those i did would be fine , unless i droped them in a bucket of water for 5 or 6 minutes before removing them .

I've done a number of projects with this process over the years , and they all turned out quite well , and were fairly sturdy .

Almost all of my terrain is made out of recycled products, primarily cardboard. Most of it is over 15 years old.

Durability? Pretty good.

Repairability? Excellent.

You are going to have to repaint or repair your terrain (whatever type you have) after awhile. You might as well do it cheaply and have something nice for people to use.

Cost? Excellent comparably speaking to GW's terrain.

wtb content here on Dakka. I'm not bookmarking every blog that claims to have decent content.

well , it doesnt matter what i "claim" , "bookmarking" is something you do after YOU have decided if its worth it . if you arent willing to look at what other people have posted elsewhere , its your loss , because DAKKA is only one of several boards out there , and the reason i use boardgamegeek , is because its not directed at primarily at just one game , but rather at about 50,000 different games in their data base .

i dont actually play WH40K anymore , the articles i write to my blog are geared toward other players of DUST TACTICS , but since i WAS a WH40K player a long while back , and still build the figs to ebay now and then , alot of the techniques i have learned and use are useful by players of a wide variety of games . posting things here limits the readership to mostly WH40K players , posting it there opens it up to fans of a wide variety of games .

i would think it is more telling that a MOD for THIS site wants to know why i dont have it posted here as an article , as he seems to think its worth reading .

so its your loss , not just my post , but all the other posts you refuse to look at , there is alot of good work out there .

and i do plan to eventually post the one blog entry here , but it will be a long while since i would need to reupload the pics and do alot of work to format it , since the pics apparently dont work the same as furum posts .

Good info- the craft houses are a great base for terrain and the look really fits WW2 gaming.

Though I don't play DUST, I also really liked your approach to arms based on caliber/role. It is then easy (and logical) to jump up or down a category and apply special rules based on ammunition (for example, HV rounds might move it up a category, incendiary down but produce burning effects, etc.). I wish more wargames took such a simple, logical approach. I also agree that some abstraction is good- most WW2 infantry rifles performed more or less the same roles. No real reason to distinguish a Lee Enfield from a Karibiner 98 or a M1 Garand from a G43. I do think the higher ROF should give some advantage to a semi-auto over a bolt action and an assault rifle over a a semi, though. But I am going OT....

As long as it is Tabletop game. this thread IS very useful. (especially when I live nowhere near the place where plasticard (Tamiya??) is available.

I says 'paper' because here in Thailand. 'corrugated' cardbord is also called 'paper' (cartas) of some sort.

I have some plan in mind. to make field fortifications (let's say... trench systems, gunpits, redoubt, pillboxes, breastworks...) for my IG to holdout against waves of attacks. but let me finish my 500 points IG company first.

in that case , then yes , its a great material , its easy enough to work with , and while the "paper" itself isnt so sturdy , adding the construction adhesive makes it alot better .

i have access to a band saw , so i use better materials when i make my own stuff , but for people that dont have access to a saw , this is very good .

I may be needing to build yet more terrain and some houses for Freebooters Fate.

If and when I get around to it I may try and adopt some of your methods.

Especially liked the pill boxes btw and the Flail
Never thought I would see a sci-fi "Funny" (reference to the special tanks used for Operation Overlord)

before the game came out , i spent so much time on the net looking info up on WW2 , and the funnies were just so cool , i couldnt resist , even though i play germans , luckily alotof the funnies were used in the D-Day invasion , and in the game time line the alies are repelled from france AFTER d-day , so the axis would have plenty of access to captured "funnies" to build from .

even though i dont play Wh40K anymore , i consider my self fortunate to have played in first and second edition , when conversions and scratch built were more encouraged . those were the days , when it was all about taking ideas and running with them , and your figs and scenery were only as good as you could make them , because there werent plastic kits with a million pieces to choose from to pimp the modles out . it was up to you to come up with the idea and figure out how to make it happen .

the game was so much fun then

I totally agree with you. After 2006 things went down hill. If people want to spend money on "plastic" terrain, well that is of course their choice. Myself though creativity is not just converting models. There is creativity in making terrain. And the savings from this can be applied to other aspects of the hobby.
