Subject: Tips for painting yellow?

Working on my bad moonz orks. So far the yellow has actually been fine. Since so far its all just been boyz and nobs. I cant tell the yellow is a bit on the streaky side but since its such small areas and once I get done with my wash high light and battle damage you cant tell at all and the yellow looks great.
However I am at a point to start painting a few tanks as well as my warboss that I am using ghazzy as a base for and I need to improve my yellow so I am looking for some tips. So far my yellow is as follows.
Base coat black *the whole model is base coated black*
Iyanden Darksun
Golden Yellow
Gryphonne Sepia
Then general highlights and battle damage.
So how do I improve on this to make it look good over a large area. Would going with a base coat of white then a watered down coat or 2 of Iyanden Darksun followed by a few watered down coats of Golden Yellow be the thing to do? I am somewhat at a lose.

You can use brown as a foundation for your yellows. It makes it to where the yellow takes less coats to get the color you want. Just make sure to use lighter shades of brown. I like GWs Bubonic Brown for this.

Not that I have any experience painting yellow, but I would say that if you started with a white base coat, and did two thin layers of golden yellow,(also thin the Iyanden Darksun) then you may get better results.

I actually went and looked at paints today and looked at the browns cause I had actually read that and it seemed to me that the 2 browns closest to yellow. The one you said as well as vomit brown seemed so close to iyanden darksun it didnt seem worth the extra steps. But I could see a brown a little darker then my foundation yellow helping. Automatically Appended Next Post: One thing I think I also need to know as what counts as a thined down coat of paint.
What sort of ratio of paint to water am I shooting for? Or consistency?
One drop or water per drop of paint or is that to much?

Yellow and White are really similar when painting. Just need to build it up with thin coats progressively getting brighter from the base colour to the end colour. Generally you want one that covers well and that's usually the darker colours.

For yellow you should do the following steps
1. Prime the model white
2. Use yellow foundation from Gw called Iyaden Darksun make sure you thin the paint down. I usually do 1:1 ration so 1 drop of water and 1 drop of paint.
3. Use golden yellow and the do the same thing thin the paint down.
that should start anything you want to paint yellow

+1 to an00bis.
Yellow is one of those colors that just doesn't cover well.
Edit:
Completely forgot to mention it. Priming in white is your best bet for this, but some people say that priming in white makes your model look "cartoonish" or "comical" (think of that bright paint scheme the eldar have), but I personally have never had that issue (based nids in white before leviathan scheme awhile back, looked spot on )

Why is it that only those who have never fought in a battle are so eager to be in one? |

Yeah, you're screwing yourself with step 1. I also vote for priming in white.
