I'm new to fantasy, and setting up and removing models (specifically skaven hordes) during a game takes a very long time and is quite messy so I thought, would it be acceptable if instead of removing models, I put a 20 sided dice next to a unit (or the custom movement tray could have a little slot to hold it) to show how many casualties that unit has taken instead of removing them.

I enjoy using large bases for like 4-10 models, but as long as you have the models i would allow it

Yeah, that's how they do it in kings of war i believe. The only problem is you'd have to mentally keep track of how many ranks you've got when counting up combat rez, and figuring out how many attacks you get and your opponent gets, especially on the flanks. Also, for LOS purposes it might be tricky if your last few models can be seen but they really shouldn't be there.

I know where you're coming from though and the idea is there its just a lot more to keep track of in your head in the middle of a game.

I'd say if you want that sort of mechanic download the kings of war rules from the mantic site. They're free!
