I am thinking about incorporating WWII German Panzers into my IG army as Leman Russ's, I am sure someone has done this before so could someone tell me the scale model and possibly point me in the direction of some online places where I can purchase them from?

Also I was just thinking, did any WWII tanks have side boxes or were those widely used in WWI? What tanks had side boxes?

As for your second question, that look on the Russ tanks was mainly a feature of First World War tanks.

No WW2 tank really used sponsons to my knowledge. I don't run Russes with them anyways from both a looks perspective, as well as a gaming one. I scratchbuilt some tanks for my friends army, and they were roughly the same size as a russ, just a lot shorter. As for scale models, I want to say 1/35 but I may be wrong

Just my 2 cents

1/35 would put something like a Panzer MK IV at about the same size as a Russ.

I have a 1/35 Stugg III, which uses a Panzer chassis. My camera batteries are charging right now, but Ill try to post up a pic of it with some GW minis tomorrow.

Whats my game?
Warmachine (Cygnar)
10/15mm mecha
Song of Blades & Heroes
Blackwater Gulch
X wing
Open to other games too

That would be greatly appreciated. I mean I like the look of the Leman Russ but I don't want to spend a fortune building my armored division. Does anyone know of any other members here that have done what I am thinking about doing, if so could you please point me in the direction of their threads so that I can get some ideas?

I was sorting models the other day since I'm moving soon and has a mostly completed Panzer IV sitting amongst about 16 lemans. It is an interesting size comparison cause it is about the same width and a little shorter then a fair bit longer and somehow it kinda feels off. Being a big treadhead though I find the leman to be an odd shape like most treadheads and that makes it harder to "replace" the leman. I have considered for a long time building a reworked and more realistic russ even.

1/35th scale Panzer IVs can work and as they are a bit larger than russes they offer a slight disadvantage so any that isn't an ultramarine should let you use it. You sould use a couple pintle mounted guns to represent sponsons also and there are a number of different panzer main guns that could cover at least half the russ's options.

I don't know any german tanks using "sponsons". but a russian T-28 could do..

No offense, but I think you may be wrong, I have got several 1/35 Tamiya military miniatures, and I will have to check, but they are almost double the height of guardsmen. Warhammer scale tends to be 1/68 or thereabouts. I'm not sure of the scale of the tanks in relation to the soldiers, but it may be much too big.

Due to GW's scale being "28mm Heroic" you'll find litlle that matches perfectly, even other GW products. It's a commonly noted thing that GW apc's, for example, are too small to hold their supposed number of troops.

1/32 is big, perhaps too big scale-wise, but do look about right as heavy/super heavy tanks, depending on model of course.
1/35 always looks ok width & height, but invariably too long.
1/48 is getting there, but is a bit narrow.
28mm (not heroic) should work, but doesn't quite.
1/56 ish, or 1/43, are common diecast metal models; cars are generally ok, but trucks are too narrow and tanks too small.
Generic "plastic toy soldiers/"army men"" vary in scales/sizes from 1/72-1/76/15mm (HO/OO SCALE),THROUGH TO 1/32/54MM.

At the end of the day it's really down to you and generally if a thing "looks" right it is right.
