Pretty new to CSM and was wondering what people's opinions were as to what was the best Chaos Lord to field. I've ordered both a Chaos Lord and Chaos Termi Lord so i could play both or have one of them along with my Daemon Prince.

It's really a matter of opinion. I personally always field a choas lord on either a bike to put with other bikers or a jump pack/wings to go with a squad of raptors. Almost always I give him a deamon weapon as well and usually a mark of some kind depending on the army. But give both a try and find what works for you.

I field a Terminator Lord with a daemon weapon. I run Iron Warriors so I'm Chaos Undivided. Give him a combimelta and he's ready for anything.

Hmmm.. what do you guys think of lord with jump pack/wings, pair of lightning claws and melta bombs? I was looking at the codex and that looks like a good combo on paper (can he still be equipped with a gun even if he has pair of lightning claws?)

I like Brother SRM's Termi Lord and Commisar Wolfie's Lord looks good too.

It would be a pretty solid combat monster so long as you take a raptor squad with him.

I intend to do so, and their aspiring champion is already decked out with lightning claws

Generally the khrone and nurgle demon weapons are considered the best. Slap on a jump pack or wings and just point at the enemy, if the lord makes it there, they normally die horrible deaths.

I usually give my lord the mark of Khorne, but a lot of time any cc squads will get the mark of slaanesh. I love that boost in Inititave. especially on termies and chosen those squads i just aim at IC and HQ and watch them go.

Personally I'd run the raptor champion with a powerfist. I often run a second Chaos lord with lightning claws in a Chaos Marine squad with a powerfist champion. It's good to have that sort of insurance against dreadnoughts and MCs.

Chaoslords are ineficcient. They offer you nothing but a rather sqishy close combat choice. If you wish to go this route then choose Kharn / counts as Kharn who, for a rather low amount of points, will do well.

Just wondering, I'm a little confused by the codex, most units I see have to give up both gun and close combat weapon in exchange fora pair of lightning claws. The codex says that for the chaos lord he "may replace close combat weapon with one of the following: blah blah blah... pair of lightning claws for 30 pts" it doesn't say he has to give up his gun for it so does he still get to use bolt pistol/plasma pistol/ twin-linked bolter/ combi weapon?
