I know this forum dislikes Red Shirts but do you guys actually have any Friends as Red Shirts?

dude, your premise is wrong and a little short on real life - just because some people don't happen to like how they get treated in shops and are incapable of separating a person from their job doesn;t mean most of us "dislike" redshirts.

Most of them are average joes earning a living and on average are reasonable people.

Just because a forum laughs at a stereotype doesn't mean we all dislike redshirts.

2014 will be the year of zero GW purchases. Kneadite instead of GS, no paints or models. 2014 will be the year I finally make the move to military models and away from miniature games.

I know, I know. I am ONE, I mainly wear my Black Shirts most days but I sometimes wear my old Red One. It's just many people dislike redshirts and GW. I mean check this out: http://www.dakkadakka.com/dakkaforum/posts/list/320421.page

Yes well, the rantings of one socially maladjusted forum-dweller doesn't necessarily mean the rest of us feel that way.

Too true my good man,i've seen a few red/blackshirts come and go in my local gw and to be fair they have been fantastic people and proper hobby lovers. The red/black shirt who is currently in charge is a decent chap who always does his best to make people feel welcome or regulars to feel part of the gang(i know). In all walks of life you are not going to get on with everybody but thats life.

By the title, I assumed we were talking about the friends that never seem to survive 'away missions'. Probably would have been more entertaining my way. :(

on topic: people hate on redshirts, and sometimes with good reason, but i find that it is usually just angst

I was thinking the same thing. I was thinking that the redshirts of wargaming were the people that we knew would never win a game at any costs but have the heart to keep going.

Call me a noob, but can someone explain the roles of red shirt, black shirt and blue shirt?

The guy who runs the local GW is a black shirt so I'm assuming that's a managerial role. He's a really nice guy too, I'm glad to have him at the store.

I would call that person a hero and a friend.

Adam's Motto: Paint, Create, Play, but above all, have fun. -and for something silly below-

"We are the Ultramodrines, And We Shall Fear No Trolls. bear this USR with pride".

Also, how does one apply to be a member of the Ultramodrines? Are harsh trials involved, ones that would test my faith as a wargamer and resolve as a geek?

You must recite every rule of Dakka Dakka. BACKWARDS.

Black Shirts are managers.

Blue shirts (in the UK) and Red shirts (elsewhere) are general staff.

I hav'nt been into a GW store for over 2 years so not sure what they are like now. I don't like being hard sold anything.

In the past I got along fine with most GW staff I had dealings with. They were friendly and loved the hobby and a bunch of good blokes.

In fairness to the current day, it is hard to find good service anywhere from any company.

Its the age we live in, we traded good service for convenience in retail and services many years back.

I shop a lot over the internet these days.

Staff are staff you get the good ones and the bad ones.

I was a red shirt once, and a good friend of mine was one at a different time. In the end, the discount didn't make up with the crap you got from head office, from hyper-active kids, and from chavs coming in to try and take the michael. I feel sorry for the shirts, they have unpleasant jobs, but I have little interaction with them now, as I do not go to GW shops any more.

Yes I did, Steve the Awesome. This guy was a former lawyer and is now a professor for a school, damn was he awesome he constantly made jokes about the races and kept the games funny. Helk he owned a dwarf army saying they look just like himself.
OH boy do i miss the good ole GW before the one man per a store retinue came in...
Steve was an awesome guy but he had a stroke sadly and moved on with his life. I then met him at a gamesday and he is still funny as he was before.
Chris. Oh dear god was this guy gifted, he made events that sounded boring sound awesome, helk he made a customer club just because he got bored.
Though those days are now past :(

My local GW store has around 4 staff and they all wear black shirts. Maybe it's an Australia thing. I haven't seen a red shirt in a long time.

All the redshirts I have met lately where actually wearing blue shirts.

A lot of them are actually really cool and friendly. Some of them I really enjoy chatting to when I stop by GW (which admittedly I haven't done since the last price increase). Occasionally you meet one who is a douche bag but that can happen anywhere.

Only elsewhere.

In the UK it's still black for managers, blue for general monkeys.
