well here is my plan for my VC SoM army, I think I have enough bases covered, I am leaning towars three caster in 2000pt games or less two to hold and 1 to hunt an occupy, will see how it pans out when I take to the table.

Vampire Lord; MoBA, Forbidden Lore (Metal), Flayed Hauberk, Talisman of Presrvation, Helm of Commandment (490)

Vampire; Forbidden Lore (Death) Armour of Fortune, Hellstead (205)

Necromancer; IoN, VDM, Raise Dead, Black Periapt (100)

30 Crypt Ghouls (240)

30 Skeletons; FC, Warbanner (285)

5 Dire Wolves (40)

30 Grave Guard; Great Weapons, FC, Banner of Barrows (465)

Varghulf (175)

Total= 2000pts

Monsters and Magic

Cockertrice; Poisoned Claws (185)

10 Harpies; Venomous Ooze (120)

3 Great Stags (195)

I didn't take lore of Light on my Vamp Lord as the Cataclysm spells are not that beneficial for forces of disorder, The skeleton are to be deployed deep and intercept any Monster making a beeline to my Casters, with the Warbanner and max ranks to reduce any impact from being unstable, The vamp is on a Hellstead so he can close range for the Lore of death spells to snipe at wizards occupying fulcrums and quickly nab them, he has a 4+/4++ to keep him safe from any shooting and he will be supported by the harpies who can keep pace, The Great Stags are just there as I had the points and they can make a good shock unit, 3d3 impact hits and having a 5+ ward is quite nice (that isn't negated by magical weapons! maybe a hint as to where the next WE book is going, holding out hope for my WE yet) I also look forward tocoverting the Stags to look all evil and such.

So thoughts?

one thing is your skellies cannot take warbanner as it is 35 pts n they can only hold a banner of 25 pts or less

aside from that i like it, i would say go with light for your lord however you ave already shown your arguement for picking something else, (i do not have the SoM book so i cant see the other race specific spells etc etc)

no wight king bsb? seeing as how you have "free" SoM monster points maybe think about that or another unit of somthing instead of the varghulf

just first thoughts

You can't use SoM monster and magic points on your army. it's reserved sepcifically for stuff in that book.

You skellies can take a warbanner, because in the vampire book, a warbanner costs 25 points.

135 points, I'd always take the M9 scouting vampire.
150 points, I'd seriously consider the ethereal vampire.

Need to stop a monster? How many of those have magical attacks?

I like the idea Matt but with all the magic flying about it would be easy enough to get magic attacks on a monster, also I wanted stronger access to Lores hence my choice of forbidden Lore on the lower level vamp, I feel that A skele unit will hold up a monster better than an ethereal vamp as it will take 2-3 turns to kill the skele unit by a single monster without any support, more than enough time to do my own thing
