Cruel Corsair
Raiding the settlements of an inferior race
|
Ok so I've just bought a new Dark Elf Dreadlord on dragon and I have to say the model is awesome and I'm aslo pleased how easy it is to fit together. Big models like that are not my kind of style.
Anyway to get back on topic what is the best way of equiping a Dreadlord on a Dragon? I chose not to use it as a sorceress as magicians shouldn't really be getting into combat but a dragon should and they contradict each other. Not good. (Feel free to post your thoughts on this if you disagree)
Also please note that I'm not solely using this for Storm of Magic.

No replies?! :(
I was thinking: Ginat Blade, Armour of Eternal Servitude and the Ironcurse Icon along with full mundane.
That gives him 7 WS7 S7 Attacks as well as a good armour save and regeneration. It also provides a much needed ward save for the dragon against warmachines.

I'm not the most expierianced player, but as long as he doesn't get blasted by a cannon or swarmed by some horde of goblins or whatever then he should be able to wreck some face. What is your plan for him anyway? He seems like he would be great at going after some heavy cav or something like that.

I'd go with something like this.
Crimson Death
Armor of Darkness
Pendent of Khaleth
THe other tricksters shard.
Your paying a lot of points for just one more pt of str, and PoK will outperform regen every day of the week. The trickster is there mostly for screwing with enemy lords... or phoenix gaurd.

Yeah Heavy cav is a good target for him. I will mainly be using him in a dual charge with a large(ish) block of troops. Generally speaking the block of troops (prob spearmen) will provide ranks and make sure the opponent isn't steadfast and the dragon/dreadlord will provide the casualties.

Yeah if you can rip steadfast off the unit you hit that would be great. The only other thing I would worry about is the lord. His T is kinda low, but he really only has to worry about getting shot so if you move/deploy him right then he should be relativly safe from arrows.

Also, I'd like to point out you are gonna want something to shut down war machines like cannons. Harpies, dark riders, and shades come to mind. Cuz with my set up the dreadlord could live, but two cannons will tear down the dragon itself.

The crimson death is a nice idea my only issue is that its two handed and so I can't use a shield. The other's trickster's shard was something I'd considered too.

You can't stack Regen and Ward saves anymore, so the Armor is really only good for... well... nothing really. soaking s2 attacks maybe? That's really it. Other wise just go with mundane armor and a SDC. You can use a shield to deflect small arms shooting as you get into place, and the PoK for cannons. Except of course that you'll likely loose your dragon to them, but...
As far as steadfast is concerned, you'll always be against steadfast foes if they are in a unit unless they get to under 5 models. Steadfast counts ranks, not ranks beyond the first.
Druchii I'm wondering how you're getting 7 S7 attacks with that set up? I'm pretty sure the lord only has 4 attacks. o.O

Good news. This is the best time in the hobby. Full of promise. GW lets us down each time and we know it but secretly we're hoping that this is the edition that GW gives us a balanced game that can also be played competitively at tournaments. I'm loving it.

Dread Lord, heavy armor, shield, cloak, Dragon Helm, Chill Blade, Iron Curse Icon, and Pendant.
The icon is to give the dragon the 6+ ward.
The lord has a 1+ armor save, with reverse ward, and 2+ ward vs flaming. He's only got 4 S4 attacks, but any hit causes a T test, failure is a wound with no save and your opponent can't attack back.
With WS7 and hate, you should be forcing 3 or 4 toughness tests, and you've got a good shot at making anything fail (6 always fails). That lets you go toe to toe with other dragon riders, as you might prevent their mount from attacking, giving you a huge edge in the combat.

I'm testing out one with:
Heavy armour, sea dragon cloak, shield, pendant of khaleth, black dragon egg and caledors bane
caledors bane isn't great (crimson death would probably be better but I'm running kuran who comes with it).
I'd strongly suggest the black dragon egg, a T6 elf with a breath weapon can really mess up your opponents plans.
Pendant is a must for keeping those cannonballs that were aimed at the dragon from turning your guy into a thin paste on the other side of the table.

The problem with the 'vote with your dollar' response is that it doesn't take into account why we're not buying the product. I want to enjoy 40k enough to buy back in. It was my introduction to traditional games, and there was a time when I enjoyed it very much. I want to buy 40k, but Gamesworkshop is doing their very best to push me away, and simply not buying their product won't tell them that. |

The BDE sounds like a highly amusing idea, as unleashing 4d6 s3 attacks in one turn is pretty hefty, especially if the enemy has been debuffed by Shadow or Death magic. Plus another d6 S6 from the thunderstomp. Very naughty indeed...

Ive not realy played against dark elves that much, but they allways struggle against dwarflords (high T good armor), so i personally would either tool him up to beat the snot out of all enemy charachters, or do the same to infantry. It depends on what role you want him to have.

Ok thanks for all the replies guys. It seems like the pendant of khaleath is a no-brainer so I'll use that. I just want a way to make him do more damage now. I suppose crimson death or caledor's bane is a good option.

Don't forget, you've also got the 5 S6 attacks and the Thunderstomp for high strength killiness. Whip of Agony is a good fit on him.

On my own Dark elf dreadlord i mostly use Giant blade (+3 str if im correct on the name), Enchanted shield, Pendant of Khaeleth. Pretty good imo it worked every time tbh and of course sea dragon cloak, heavy armour + repeater crossbow but most of the times he comes on foot.

Nope. The plan is to charge the dragon in along with a large block of spearmen/corsairs. They provide the ranks, the dragon provides the casualties (but i suppose the spearmen/corsairs can do some damage too). Simple but effective
