Hi
I want to make a banner for my chapter standard bearer, i have made them before form green stuff and that has all been fine and all, but i want to make this one really dynamic. And i have seen some pictures on here with some crazy good banners.
What I was wondering is how have people managed to get around painting freehand on the banner while still including all the folding in the sculpt, because last one I made there was just no way I could paint anything decent in any of the gaps.
So yea just seeing other peoples ways to paint standards.
Sorry for the longwindednessesesss..ess
thanks

I would imagine that it would be difficult to really make a complicated banner design and yet have the banner be dramatically blowing in the wind. Since the banner would fold over itself in places, it's just not worth it.
I can only suggest making your banner in such a way as to showcase the largest graphic element of the banner, and the lower sections could have the fabric deformation starting to happen from the wind direction. In those lower areas you could have smaller details like kill counts or roman numerals, or just a simple border design.

Simple answer? You can't. Either make the banner simple and the freehand complicated or the banner dynamic and the freehand simple.

What I did was using two pieces of paper glued together printed with my PC onto them my banner. From there while the glue is still wet you can "mould" it to look like its waving like what I did here.

I can think of a few easy ways.
You could print your banner onto transfer paper and then transfer it onto the shaped banner using a shed load of microsol.
Another alternative might be to find someone can put the banner design onto a sheet of plastic for you using an engraving machine, and then you can fold the plastic afterwards using heat. I'm sure I remember someone on dakka saying they had access to an engraving machine... now who was it...?
