Which unit is better?

5 Grey Knight Terminators 230 Points
Justicar w/Halberd
Terminator w/Psycannon, Halberd
Terminator w/Halbred
Terminator w/Falchions (It is there to make the attacks and points even)
Terminator w/Demonhammer

Or:

10 Grey Knights Strike Squad 230 Points
Justicar w/Demonhammer
2 Grey Knights w/Psycannons
7 Grey Knights

My personal preference goes to the Strike Squad. They have Warp Quake and have a higher damage output (at range at least), yet lower survivability than terminators. Another large factor is that the Strike squad can take a transport and can combat squad and thus are more flexible on the field.

May I ask why you are asking?

Neither.

5 Termies; 4 with NFswords, 1 PSycannon, 1 Daemon Hammer(not on the Justy), MC the Justy's Sword.

The termies attack at a lower Speed but have a 4++ in CC(where you seem to want them)

The Psycannon could also be switched out for an Incinerator and Psybolt Ammo on the Squad; this will give you all-around better shooting at non-vehicles while you advance, and a real nice Template shot before you charge(Wounding most any unit on a 2+).

lukus raises some good points about the Strike squad as well; the only thing I would change is the position of the Daemon hammer(it will get lost to any Anti-psyker attacks or Perils suffered).

This is my Rulebook. There are many Like it, but this one is mine. Without me, my rulebook is useless. Without my rulebook, I am useless.

The demonhammer is on the strike squad's justicar because he has the most attacks. One attack will not cut it on a regular trooper, so yes he will die on a perils, but that is the tradeoff for the extra attack.

You do not want swords on terminators. A bad +1 inv save in assault is nearly worthless. You want halbreds and to kill what ever is trying to kill you first. If they are dead you do not have to worry about taking saves.

Swords are useful on paladins to get a better chance of soaking those hidden power klaws and playing wound allocation.

As to the units, I would contend that which is the best depends on what the rest of the list is. The strike squad is somewhat more efficient than the terminator squad in most cases, with increased flexibility, but if you're using a lot of other terminators or otherwise reliant on high AV stuff, you may want terminators for even more saturation against low AP.

TBH looking at the units in a vacuum is tough. Is there a list that you can show us to help us understand what function you want the unit to perform?

Don't forget psybolt ammo on your 10-man strike squad.

And honestly, as Lukus pointed out, it depends on the rest of your list. Unit comparisons in a vaccuum isn't really accurate.

Allan,

For many of the same reasons as Lukus has identified. I like the SS over the Terminators for the base unit in a GK list.

From my experience, the 10 man Strike Squads seemed to always outperform the terminators. 2+/5++ at I6 is fine but the WS4 really sucks hard for them. The unit can't put out enough firepower either. The Strikes have plenty of dakka and then plenty of bodies to drown units in assault.

The one thing I hate about this book is how underwhelming terminators are.

Paladins on the other hand are AWESOME!

Probably work

I've had better luck with the Terminators, though in another similar thread, someone mathhammered showing me why the strike squad was better. I'll have to see if I can find that thread. My rationale for using terminators over strike squads is the prevalence of AP3 in my local meta. Much less AP2 and AP1, so 2+ saves for me it is.

As far the loadout goes, I normally do two swords, two halibreds, and the hammer. Justicar is always a sword. The psycannon guy has one of the halibreds.

Am I allowed to say none of the above?

My choice is purifiers. Oh, I know they're not troops, but you can make them scoring with a grandmaster so you don't have to take the special character.

he still has to take at least 2 of the above for a legal list unless he does take Crowe so making purifiers scoring doesn't solve anything here.
