Hello all. This year will be my first time attending Gencon indy. From reports/talking to friends who have gone, I have an inkling of what to expect, although i know all to well this is likely to get shattered, ran over, and pistol-whipped in under my first two minutes in the hall.

This is not your average convention trip either. I'm driving (with my mother....she wants to visit historical sites) from the middle of florida up to indianapolis, and according to her schedule i'll only get two days at the con ( friday and saturday - partly because of school related concerns)

My questions are twofold:

1. What would you reccomend i visit/participate in

and

2. would anyone like to meet up for a game of Kings of war or just to exchange pleasantries and put a face to a username?

The only time booked in my con agenda, as it were, is a 2 hour (or so) chunk on saturday playing a game of KoW against Ronnie Renton and checking out the mantic stand/buying related items. Other than that I thought i would wander the hall but thought I would get some advice first.

Oh, and I already have my badge, so no line-waiting for me.

I for one am glad that my stupidly long car drive is about 2 hours shorter then yours

Anyway, I'll be at Booth #2233 (Next to WOTC) running demos and promoting our games. I'm understaffed this year, so I will most likely be quite busy during show hours.

I'd LOVE to go, but I will be back home in Ocean City, New Jersey that weekend. As much as I love GenCon, it can't touch the beach, boardwalk, cheese steaks, and stromboli.

Went for 2 days last year, going this year for the full event.

The main hall's a given, but they've got a lot going on all over the place. I believe they've expanded for this year too, so it should really be a sprawl. Take some time at the beginning to walk around, take everything in, and plan what you want to do from there. Browse the events on their registration site beforehand, too. There are events to cover tastes from all ranges of the geek spectrum. For example, I'm already signed up to paint minis, attend RPG panels, play some card games, learn how to make sushi, and get stinking drunk with a bunch of like-minded people. Figure out what you want to do, and the hard part will be trying to fit everything in. Any down time is easily filled with random gaming, watching whatever movies or anime are playing, or even just people watching.

Wear comfortable shoes.

Don't overplan. make sure you have time to walk between events and enjoy yourself, and aren't angry for missing a half-dozen events.

If I go again (hopefully in 2012) I am thinking no more than one event for each morning, afternoon, and evening.

If meeting with friends, establish planned meeting areas and times.

Working on someting you'll either love or hate. Hopefully to be revealed by November.
Play the games that make you happy.

Pleasure to be of service. Having a little dakka meet-up could be fun though, I certainly wouldn't be opposed to it.

I made this thread exactly for that purpose, although it was an ulterior motive to getting advice.

The first few years, I spent a good portion of each day in tournaments (RPG and CCG). But, I really missed out on all that GenCon has to offer. I now schedule 2-4 painting/hobby other events spread out over the con and spend the rest of the time wandering the dealers room, people watching and playing games with buddies I never get to see.
