So i have played 40k for 8 years, and have always had my eyes on dem Brettonians. From what I have read, they are at a disadvantage in the current rule set...so my question for all you WHFB players is : should i start collecting now or wait for the new rule set? also, which is the most commonly played WHFB armies?

They can work, and work very well, under the new rules. HOWEVER, they are very much a finesse army in the new rules. You cannot - literally, can not - just charge across the field and expect to win. You will get bogged down in an extended combat, get flanked, and get plowed under.

You pretty much must ram two or three units of knights into a target unit to win. If you don't break them on the charge, even if you win that round you will probably loose the combat.

Brets are always one mistake away from loosing. Remember that, and you can do well. Forget it at your peril.

(And Trebuchets are just plain Awesome in the new rules. )

Dan Heelan from the Heelan Hammer podcast has been running a peasant list pretty successfully. It seems like they aren't at a huge disadvantage from what I hear from most sources.

The more you wait the higher the prices get, so yea get models now before the new rules hit when you'll need twice the peasants at twice the price.

You should be able to get plenty of current model knights to fill out your army. You may also want to consider grabbing some of the previous edition knights and using them as Errants.

Avoid metal models such as the trebuchet and grail knights until the new edition, if possible, since they'll likely be redone in plastic or resin.
