I decided to start working on a Skaven army as a side project while building Ukramarines (Ukramarines WIP).

Today I picked up a Warhammer Island of Blood starter set. Smell of freshly-opened box should keep me high for a couple of days .

Nothing says better "I hate you!" than a pile of giant disease-ridden vermin ready to devour any enemy . I glued 40 clanrats to bases and snapped on their weapons. Next step is to clean up mold lines and spray primer.

Mmmm. Skaven. One of my favorites. But man does the look of the box with all those sprues of goodies make me want to go buy something.

...Maybe I'll just open something I haven't opened yet.

Happy painting to you.

I sure hope I will have good time. Skaven mix of magic and science is what got me into them.

As for the new stuff...

With Golum's voice, while holding a new box of Warhammer figurines "My only, my precioussssss."

And that is the reason I must stay away from even thinking of buying new shiny boxes in a hobby store.

After putting together clanrats, I went on to assembling rat ogres. To my surprise I found one of the heads missing. I searched in the box and around the work area but didn't find that piece. I decided to go to a Games Workshop store. After reading forums, I was hoping that since I am beginner in Warhammer Fantasy, they would give me whole new set and let me keep the one I bought . That didn't happen. But I did get a replacement for the head and an awesome customer service experience .

Sold the elven army. Added $ and got 2 Doohwheels and Warplightning cannon.

Also found great deal on ebay for $160 :

3 Warlords
2 Warpfire throwers
2 Poison wind mortars
4 Rat Ogres
2 Packmasters
118 Clanrats
1 Screaming Bell (in a box)

All of the stuff was sent out today. UPS site says should be here by the end of Wednesday. Woo hoo!

Today my Skaven reinforcements have arrived

Cool thing is that on top of the above-mentioned list, it came with 20 plague monks, Skaven codex (now I have 2), Deathmaster Snikch, and Warlord Spinetail (still in blister).

The best part is that Screaming Bell is in the box and has all the pieces present (as was mentioned in the description).

Several sprues of bitz were also included.

Well, for a generous donation to Feed the Skaven fund, thread name might suddenly change itself (cough, cough).

After remembering that usernames have paypal option, I would like to say that above statement is a joke.

Considering I promised my local Skaven player I would paint his 100 plauge monks and furnace...I dont think I could donate to another Skaven fund (wow this feels like what I have to say to those goodwill people at the hollidays... )

I hope you don't burn out on 100 Skaven slaves.

It's still an exciting feeling though, yes?

Plus all the stuff that came in the Island of Blood and vehicles that are still on sprues. Gotta put them together since that is the main reason I picked Skaven.

Not planning to paint them any time soon. Working on space marines.

I honestly thought about that. Skaven who happen to live under a place where all kind of fun stuff gets dumped. Pink, yellow, green, red and blue fluorescent acrylic rods would work well. Idea is still in my head, so don't give up hope .

What's better than rats? MOARRRRR RATSSSS! (200 more to be precise). Traded some of my SM stuff for 200 clanrats. Now I can run 3 slave units 100 each.

Picked up the steel trays and mag bases from a local guy. Ordered them on Sat. and he was done on Sun. Here is his website Shogun Miniatures. He also cuts custom sizes. Very good prices too

Will you be using unit fillers or every model for themselves

Every model for themselves.

Was working on the 200 rats I got. Since they were designed for slotted bases, I had to do a lot of cutting and trimming in order to make them compatible with flat surfaces of the mag bases.

And this is only 200. Other 100 are still on GW bases. Will be putting them on mag bases next week.

This is still my experimental army. But with 300 slaves, even if I lose, I will succeed in creating WTF effect.

Another idea is to wear "300" t-shirt and yell this is Skaven.

I calculated if I can do 50 per week, it should take me under 2 months to complete all of the rats.

Tested out the army today and liked it. Got several "That's a lot of rats!" comments from other players.

So... many... ugh.

I did about 80 IG in one go and it was torment. Except for all the beer. And Star Trek TNG... OK it was not that bad.

You looked into The Army Painter quickshades? I highly recommend them for a project like this.

Something, something dark side. Something, something complete. (Well, almost). Took some cellphone pics of the whole army so far.

Look what a cat dragged in (pun intended). I am thinking about combining parts from the plague furnace to make something more fun.
