Anyone know or interested in starting a good Terraria server? I tried but for some reason it cant stay up for more then 5 minutes, and my friend that plays can't leave it up 24/7. And ideas or suggestions?

Isn't this supposed to be 2D Minecraft?

That's what I've heard about it.

Yeah, but harder monsters and more combat. They both have their pros and cons, and I honestly couldn't say one is better then the other. I haven't figured out why Java wont run on my comp yet, and I'm broke, so no Minecraft for me. If I get unpoor or a friend gifts me Minecraft then I'll prolly work on switching over.

The thing with terraria is that there is an end. so the popularity in a dakkadakka server would be limited to the world, i mean minecraft is infinite with terraria has a certain amount of loot etc.

and once you get to the top tier junk its pretty over.

They do continually add in more stuff though.

I generally go through the servers here until I find one that hasn't been griefed, is too laggy, or needs registering to be able to do anything.

It's nothing like minecraft, I've put away many hours on both.

Terraria reminds me more of the earlier castlevania games but with extensive crafting and some basic building however the building is purely for shelter, storage and gaining npc's rather than for aesthetic purposes.

So wait.....

Your saying this is like Castlevania, but multiplayer?

Yeah kind of, its pretty early in the development so you will reach the endgame content wall after around 20 odd hours and run out of stuff to do but the game is constantly updated to have new stuff.

Yeah, I saw a preview of the 1.0.6 update, its adding status ailments like poison and on fire, and making inventory easier to manage. I'm excited. But I've never seen servers that allow more then 16 people at a time, and the world can be reset, so the finite space wouldn't be a huge issue. Plus theres mods for infinite Blood Moons and Invasions.

Shenanigans. Theres plenty of artistic building if given the time and resources. Look at this one (I didn't make it)

Nifty mini-game. But still prefer my new map until I'm done with my palace.

MY point was that the ability to make pixel art does not make a game a good creation tool, terraria is combat and crafting focused and works very well as that but calling it a creative tool is a stretch.

I'm not calling it a creative tool specifically, my point is that it can be used for aesthetic purposes, and fairly well.

Terraria was pretty cool when I first got it, and played with mates.

Very very slow start to get gear, which was nice, but the moment you had good gear it became pretty well... game over.

I mean, it's a good game, I got it when it was on sale and have zero regrets, but it hasn't had the lasting appeal Minecraft (I don't even want to think of how many hours that has taken from me) has had for me. I would still recommend it for a spin.

Probably work

I just got the game and have spent some 12 hours on it so far. I don't have minecraft yet, but from what I've heard, it's basically minecraft with win conditions. I'm planning on keeping my world set up as a dedicated server, but I'm not sure yet whether I'll open it up. It depends on bandwidth and resource concerns, as I've not been able to build my new gaming rig yet.

Okay, fine. For the set of experiences including those where there's little colored blocks you can rearrange into different configurations, they are similar.

I have quite a few spare hearts and armour/tools that I'm happy to give/trade away if anyone wants to PM me to meet up on a server
