I need help; does anybody know if the Black Templars can field a Stormraven? Even though it is not their style of warfare? I'm wondering if I should purchase one because the model is great. Or should I go with a Caestus Assault Ram? Any help is.... helpful

You can only field what is in the codex

Now what about the Forge World stuff? the Caestus Ram can be used by all space marine armies, but it says that it doesn't have Imperial Sanction, only experimental rules. What does that all mean?

It means the rules aren't official and you need your opponent's permission to play it.

Nope, but depends on who you play with they might not care since the BT codex is old.

I would think any tournament funded by GW would allow it since it's a 66USD model ! j/k, of course.

I was hoping that they could use the Stormraven because a transport for over a squad of models, and a dreadnought, and a huge range of weapons is very hard to pass up ha

I don't think so. One of my friends plays Black Templars, and he has no Stormravens. You can only use Stormravens for Blood Angels, and Grey Knights.

Be sure to read my story, Champion Of Nurgle, and check out the updates soon: http://www.dakkadakka.com/dakkaforum/posts/list/385972.page

Currently, the Stormraven is BA and GK only.

That said, I wouldn't be surprised if all new Marine Codices had it added. its kinda hinted in the fluff that it is starting to be handed out to Chapters for testing. and with the rumored addition of Flyers and Super Heavies in 6th edition it would be a logical marine Flyer.

the Ceastus Assault Ram is currently experimental, meaning you need opponents permission. once it is in an IA book proper it will be avaliable. just beware that some opponents have an irrational fear of FW rules and products and will refuse to play you dispite the fact you payed through the nose(more so then other players anyway) for something which is more likely to be a overpriced and underpowered toy rather then the opposite.

Forgeworld stuff isn't allowed in most tournaments, and some pickup gamers will be stodgy and say no. Friendly games are generally A-okay. The Stormraven is only for use by Blood Angels and Grey Knights right now, but I wouldn't be surprised if it got rolled into the next Black Templars codex when that comes out in a year or two (or three!)

What I'm surprised has only been touched upon in this thread so far (I think) is that - in friendly games - you can field one if your opponent lets you, much like Forgeworld stuff.
Outside of tournaments you can do what you like, opponent permitting, typically. For example, my brother has Khornate CSM's and has the brought the Storm Raven for modelling/painting etc. but I wouldn't object to him using it in a game if he wants to...

"As I recall, your face was tortured. Imagine that - the Master of the Wolves, his ferocity twisted into grief. And yet you still carried out your duty. You always did what was asked of you. So loyal. So tenacious. Truly you were the attack dog of the Emperor. You took no pleasure in what you did. I knew that then, and I know it now. But all things change, my brother. I'm not the same as I was, and you're... well, let us not mention where you are now."

The rules are malleable in friendly games.

If you can talk your opponent into it anything goes.

It doesn't fly in a tournament though

The Viletide: Daemons of Nurgle/Deathguard: 7400 pts
Disclples of the Dragon - Ad Mech - about 2000 pts
GSC - about 2000 Pts
Rhulic Mercs - um...many...
Circle Oroboros - 300 Pts or so
Menoth - 300+ pts

Man that is a bummer, but now I'm definately looking forward to the next edition of rules and codex (for the SM and BT) I'm hoping that they will make a flyer that can be used by everychapter except for the BA and their successor chapters haha

I think the Stormraven will just become a standard vehicle for Marines of all flavors.

all codices will eventually have a flyer of some kind.

DE have the Voidraven bomber,

Space marine have Stormravens,

IG has Valks/vendettas,

Tau will probably get Barracudas,

Orks will get Fighta-bommas,

Eldar will get some counterpart to the Voidraven,

Sisters of Battle could get either a Valk/vendetta or Stormraven.

The only 5th edition codexs that do not have flyers are vanilla SM and SW.

Be patient and wait.

What will chaos get? Do you think that GW will release a chaos dreadclaw?

I've used the Storm Raven with my BT's (with opponent permision once and in apoc another time) and I wasn't wholly impressed. It was ok but it really took the flyer rules to make it worth the points. I would suggest if your looking to blow $60ish just get another LRC. Can't have too many of those and everyone in the army (except sword brethren I believe) can take one as a DT.

Dreadclaw would be a possability.

maybe a looted Stormraven, Vendetta, or Valkierie for Codex: Chaos Renagades.

Codex: Legions would likely get the Dreadclaw.

mostly for its firpower and transport capacity. lmao but you are right about the way it looks. It looks like it's trying really hard to be a tank and a thunderhawk at the same time ha

Hmmm if I didn't know any better, I would think that you are challenging the Black Templars to a duel. IG vs. BT? I think the Emperor protects those who are worth protecting... therefore the BT win

I am not sure if that is a lightly veiled threat or an actual challenge.

I am not sure either... but when i figure this all out I shall let you know. Although it would be cool to play a webcam to webcam battle (or even a campaign)
