I'm going on a trip here in about a week, and I need some ideas on music to get. I'm mostly into Power metal, but also classic metal; bands like Iron Maiden, etc.
My current favorite bands have to be (in no particular order) Hammerfall, Metallica, Iron Maiden, Nightwish, and Rhapsody of Fire
May the the blessings of His Grace the Emperor tumble down upon you like a golden fog. (Only a VERY select few will get this reference. And it's not from 40k. )
Mandorallen turned back toward the insolently sneering baron. 'My Lord,' The great knight said distantly, 'I find thy face apelike and thy form misshapen. Thy beard, moreover, is an offence against decency, resembling more closely the scabrous fur which doth decorate the hinder portion of a mongrel dog than a proper adornment for a human face. Is it possibly that thy mother, seized by some wild lechery, did dally at some time past with a randy goat?' - Mimbrate Knight Protector Mandorallen.

"You need not fear us, unless you are a dark heart, a vile one who preys on the innocent; I promise, you can’t hide forever in the empty darkness, for we will hunt you down like the animals you are, and pull you into the very bowels of hell." Iron - Within Temptation
Also, anyone know of some more good Symphonic metal?
I don't really care for Manowar, but Blind Guardian is awesome. Any other suggestions for songs by them? (I've only heard Mirror Mirror, and it is friggin awesome. I've heard they have a lot of songs about Lord Of the Rings too which is cool)
For Whom the Bell Tolls is close to my favorite song.

Eh, Linkin Park is alright for a rap metal band, at least their old stuff. New stuff is though

Tyyr is pretty good, just hop onto a plane and fly to Scandinavia. Ask around and I'm sure they'll show you some good bands. Saving that, Tyyr and some Axenstar. Axenstar is a bit fast and I think is technically speed metal(I think, not sure). Tyyr is viking metal.

Look up their Album "Nightfall in Middle Earth" Its commonly lauded as one of the best power metal albums ever made...
And yes, its ll about LOTR, specifically the Silmarillion...
I'm not sure why people hate on Linkin Park so much. Is it because they are popular? (The general attitude I see in metalheads is popular=bad) Because they are actually pretty good IMO, but their newer stuff isn't metal at all.
The only metal I don't like is "Metalcore" or whatever. If I can understand what the singer is saying, I'll probably like them.
Linkin Park is alright, its just that their new stuff makes me think of stuff that a lot of new bands are playing. The wishy washy love song, the preachy song about ending wars, etc.
I just like songs about things that don't try to make the listener feel bad about going to war or feel that breaking up with someone is the end of their life. I like songs about vikings, vikings killing stuff, vikings breaking things, and warm woolen mittens. Those are some of my favorite things to hear in music.
Cancer Bats. Saw them live at Sonisphere, and they were awesome. Unfortunately, I missed their secret second set (they listed as "Bat Sabbath" and played apparently amazing covers of Black Sabbath songs).
They also do a great cover of Sabotage.
This is probably my favourite song by them at the moment.

I actually used to listen to Linkin park alot when I was 13; it's just that alot of their newer stuff is just far too wishy washy.
And I was incredibly angsty at the time.
I've never feared Death or Dying. I've only feared never Trying.

Cannibal Corpse
Cattle Decapitation
Impaled
Cradle of Filth
Dimmu Borgir
Xasthur
Burzum (though not so much his personal beliefs)
Metallica
Megadeth
Iron Maiden
Demons and Wizards
Sabaton
Ghost
Emperor
Amon Amarth
Dethklok
Mushroomhead
Winds of Plague
Protest the Hero
Volbeat

and I'll even admit to liking Marilyn Manson and Slipknot.
As for favorite songs?
"The Prison of Mirriors" - Xasthur
"Ritual" - Ghost
"Primo Victoria" - Sabaton
"Angels of Debauchery" - Winds of Plague
"The Prophet" - Emperor
"Applied Human Defragmentation" - Cattle Decapitation

I have fairly diverse taste in metal. I even like non-metal like MGMT and electronic music.

If you are into power metal and the classics I think you would dig Candlemass a lot. \m/
The legendary Bathory has a couple albums I think you might dig, both of them are more power metalish/old school. Hammerheart and Twilight of the Gods. Twilight of the Gods is an album that needs to be listened to all the way through in one sitting, it is a religious experience. Blood and Ice is good stuff too, in the same vein as well.
Have yourself a good trip man! Hope you get yourself a good list of music!! Metal never dies!
