I am by no means an expert, but I have been play testing my deathwing army a lot the past couple month and one thing i find is, I like not mixing the storm bolters with the thunder hammers and or lighting claws units. I actually have completely dismantle all storm bolters from my army except for the interrogator chaplain. and mostly went with the cyclone missile launchers. My army is just completely terminators, and an occasional venerable dreadnought, no land raiders (rather have more terminators). I also used too deathwing assault all the time, but I now marching everything, allowing me too fire the heavy weapons as much as possible and keep the units in close proximity, to assist one another in assaults. Hope this helps any questions feel free to PM me.

I think you need some help understanding how Deathwing armies are supposed to look. Back before the GK codex came out and we could take Deamonhunter Inquisitors with unlimited range psychic hoods, but after the FAQ, double wing was one of the most competitive lists out there.

Belial, Lightning Claws - 130
Deathwing Terminators, Cyclone Missile Launcher, 5 x TH/SS - 235
Deathwing Terminators, Cyclone Missile Launcher, 5 x TH/SS - 235
Deathwing Terminators, Cyclone Missile Launcher, 5 x TH/SS - 235
Deathwing Terminators, Cyclone Missile Launcher, 5 x TH/SS - 235
Deathwing Terminators, Heavy Flamer, 5 x TH/SS - 220
Land Speeder, Typhoon Missile Launcher - 70
Land Speeder, Typhoon Missile Launcher - 70
Land Speeder, Typhoon Missile Launcher - 70
Total: 1500

Belial goes with the Heavy Flamer squad and arrives via Deathwing Assault. You have 25 TH/SS Terminators at 1500 points, plus 3 Land Speeders giving you a total of 14 Missiles per turn. Scary, no? This is one of those nightmare lists that I think about when making my own 1500 point lists.

You brighten my life like a polystyrene hat, but it melts in the sun like a life without love, and I've waited for you so I'll keep holding on without you.

I personally like to do a mix of TH/SS and regular PF/SB terminator squads with 1 TH/SS in the group. The reason for this is that very few things force more than 1 invul on terminators at long, and even short range (some things do, like vindicators, but they become your main targets), and the shooting from the storm bolters is actually pretty nice to have vs infantry (like, nids or orks), so i take 1 TH/SS to put invul saves on and 4 stormbolter guys, one of which has a cyclone missile launcher.

At 1500 i'd probably run 1-2 groups of TH/SS and 3-4 with only 1 TH/SS and the rest storm bolters. Something like this:

Belial, lightning claws - 130

5 termies, 5 TH/SS, cyclone missile launcher - 235
5 termies, 5 TH/SS, cyclone missile launcher - 235

5 termies, 1 TH/SS, cyclone missile launcher - 235
5 termies, 1 TH/SS, cyclone missile launcher - 235
5 termies, 1 TH/SS, cyclone missile launcher - 235

Speeder, MM - 65
Speeder, MM - 65
Speeder, MM - 65

1500

So, you have the speeders melta things the terminator missiles might have trouble with (land raiders and such), and then just walk the termies forward. They are slow, but almost impossible to kill at long range, so you get to shoot the enemy with missiles while they are forced to come to you.

At higher points i would trade out the speeders for bike squads with meltas and MM attack bikes, since the beacons can be nice if you want to do the deathwing assault thing, and more meltas = good, since its the only thing your termies don't really have.

Somewhere in the dark...

I like that list, JCD386 - I may well use it myself. I was going to have 3 termie squads, a LR and the Ravenwing box set but I was worried that there wouldn't be enough troops and target saturation.

Taking your list, though, what would you put in there to take it up to 2000 points?

At 2k switch 2 speeders out for bike squads with meltas and attack bikes with MMs. They scout forward and melta stuff turn 1, and the beacons help you drop Termies close if you need to.

You can fit 30 Termies and 2 bike squads at 2k, with some points left over for 1 speeder and a standard on the beliel squad if you want.
