I am currently building and Exodite Eldar army out of a bunch of fantasy models that I have had sitting in the attic for years. I had tons of silverhelms and dragon princes, and even a few actual dragons. This lead me to converting their weapons so that I can use the cavaly models as Exodite Jetbikes/Jetseer Council. Also, since fluff dictates that the Exodites live with/ride Dragons, it would be great to add them into my army as Falcons/Prisms. This, however, has lead me to a basing delima for the Dragons/Tanks.

I am looking for Dakka's opinion as to which idea is better, or for anyone to give me another option:

1. Large Oval Flaying Base
2. Scratch build base, traced from a Falcon's hull for exact size.

Wow...Over 60 views so far, and no one has any oponions or advice?

Please, guys, I am really torn on which way to go with this project, and I need to get started. So, any input would be greatly appreciated.

Personally I would use option 1, large oval flying base, simply because it is an established standard for flyer/skimmers.

The flying bases seem like a good idea. You could pose some in full flight, taking off, or striking like an eagle. lots of possibilities for dynamic poses.

I would make the base the shape of the tank then you won't have any problems with modeling for advantage and it gives your opponent a idea of what it is

If you're planning to play them, I think your second idea would be the most versatile, since people will be measuring for assaults and consolidation, even if it's suspended. It wiill streamline the game a lot better and lead to less people crying about rules, if you have people like that in your groups.

Though using flying bases will definitely be the more aesthetically pleasing option

Thanks for your input guys.

I agree with the many of the points made. I do think that the oval will look better; however for playability and the avoidence of "modeling for advantage" accusations, I think Curnow and Rex made excellent points.

If I do scratchbuild bases to the dimensions of a Fire Prism, what materials would you guys recomend? Although I have extensive conversion experiance, I hace never scratchbuilt a base.

this is good. or if you happen to have a TAP Plastics near you, I use their scrap bin stuff. $1 for each cut sheet. some good stuff in there.

I like the concept of the base being the determination for units. they should do that for the larger flying bases. especially skimmers.

you have just inspired me to change my buddies bases to the profile of the unit for his bases. a great idea.
