Okay I'm not posting this for any other reason than to highlight that things like this do happen ok?. I was talking to my cousin who is a well respected model maker (specialises in bikes, cars) and has written for many modelling magazines and has won various awards. We were talking about models and stuff and I happened to mention how expensive GW stuff is nowadays. He told me the following. The boss of Tamiya had visited Britain and was horrified at how expensive his company's models were being sold for. You know what he did? He ordered the prices to be reduced. Now not being a military modeller myself I can't say what kind of impact he has had, perhaps someone else could shed some light on it? The reason I posted it was to make the point that it is not impossible to reduce prices and still make money.
Story told. So there.

I haven't seen any reduction in Tamiya's kits and I do pay attention to this stuff.

When did this happen?
Tamiya prices have not been reduced recently. The reason they are very high is because the GBP has lost nearly 40% of its value against the JPY in the past three years.
This pushes up the price of Japanese models because the British importer has to spend more GBP to buy the JPY he needs to pay for them.
That said, many Tamiya vehicle kits are still a similar price to similar GW vehicle kits.

Tamiya is a fairly high quality modelmaker that does everything from cars to military aircraft.

Cool story, bro.
Now, aside from showing you've got an inventive imagination and an overstated sense of our gullibility, what was it's point?
Or, maybe it's not that you think we're overly gullible... quick! Look up! There's a lictor on your ceiling?
Did you look up?

Are you sure it's not stuck in the lictor disguised as your ceiling? You'd better look up, just to be sure.

Tamiya's prices like others shot up not because the manufacture's started charging more but largely because of the weak pound especially against the Euro. There's not a lot that can be done, Tamiya and others aren't raising the prices in the manner we've been witnessing.
