With a damsel able to take Life or Beasts and the almighty Prophetess able to take the heavens (or the beasts/life) - what should be played.

So far, I got excited about beasts, but it really isn't great - and I've done really well with life.

I contemplated taking two damsels, level one - beasts and level two life.... Or should I be taking a single Prophetess at level four?

I see adv of Prophetess as the ability to go level four.... but she will become my general....and she's expensive

The advantage of the Damsels is the ability to be in two places at once... but the disadvantage of lower level magic.

I'm taking at the 2400point level (next tourn)

Cheers.

Heavens syncs well with cavalry. The augments and hexes can help prevent (or at least mitigate) Rubber Lance Syndrome. Life is good too, for helping to preserve those expensive knights.

Beasts I give to Damels, without even a level upgrade. The only spell that works well for the Brets is the default one, so that's what I give her. I usually stick Beast Damsels in blocks of Men@Arms, though.

+1 to previous post. I use heavens in WoC and I think Bretts are the other army it would be suited towards, rather than rehash why I'll just give you this link and you can persue:

Unless there is a reason you don't want the lvl 4 to be the general I would go with that either way, and perhaps a lvl 1 beast scroll caddy.

The prob with the level 4 is the coast - at 190 lvl 3 (or 225 lvl 4) its a hugh point sink for an expensive army.

Going to read your post now

A level 4 is well worth the cost. Between MR 2 for her unit and her own spells (not to mention +4 to dispel!) she does very nice things for you. And you can have a level 4 and a Lord at 2000 points. It's tight, but it can be done and done effectively.

Another reason for two casters: Dispel Scroll + Silver Mirror.

Because I'm a fan of alliteration, I'll call it the Limp Lance Syndrome.

I don't like facing lore of beasts, because the +1S is a good jump in killing power for knights after the 1st round of combat. +1 toughness is always nice, but the strength is awesome.
Take your typically lance, say ~12 knights of the realm. Charging into combat, you're killing quite a few guys.
What my opponents of done to me is; when charging with the +1 Strength/Toughness, is charge in with lance formation, then combat reform to maximize contact after the charge.
Since each knight gets a S4 attack and a S4 horse attack (lore of beast sig spell), going 7 wide after the charge gives you ~19 S4 attacks (instead of 9 S3), which does a very good job and winning combat in your opponents turn.
This gives you enough time to bring another lance around into the flank.

Like Vulcan said, Silver Mirror and Dispels scroll are both really nice. Use the dispel first and if you can, hold out with the mirror to finish off a wounded wizard.

By and large, the Bret army is a CC army. Beasts, imo, in the best fit for them. I've run an all cavalry Bret army in 8th and I've used it with great effectiveness. Wildform is a great spell for only 9 to cast. And every other spell in the lore is amazing for Brets. Panns Pelt to all characters? yes, please. Savage Beast to all characters? yes, please. If you are running less than 5 characters in your Bret army, you're doing it wrong. And don't forget the lore attirbute for Beasts favors Knights!

I use a Bret Lord with Heroic KB and LVL 4 Prophetess with Book of Ashur. Seems to be a great combo for me. 4 units of KOTR and a unit of Grail Knights. Each unit has a character in it. Keep them close and try to get double lance charges and they are delivering a pretty tough shot. I also use 2 Trebuchets, 1 Grail Reliquae unit, and 10 archers. I rarely lose with this army.

My two coppers...

Vermin Swarm : : Dwarven Holds, Infernal Dwarves, Empire of Sonnstahl, Warriors of the Dark Gods, Sylvan Elves

So I've got 2 for Beasts and 2 for Heavens....

And there I was thinking hardcore about taking life (the spell..not killing people).

I'll review each spell this week and post a summary on how I could use them... that might help us choose?

I think it depends on the composition of your bretonian army. I have run both Life and Beasts to excellent effect. I used to run a list with only three characters in it so life was great. However, i have recently started running a character heavy list and the beast spells are the incredible. Charging in with three characters each with 6 attacks a a piece is devastating.

I always run a prophetess though. the MR is nice but the additional spells and the additional bonus to casting and dispelling cannot be overlooked. especially if and when your opponent brings a level four and you are forced to throw an extra die to dispel.

I have never run with hevaens and while i can see the benefit i've never created a list around it. Beasts really needs the list to be designed with characters in mind. Plus the signature spell is awesome. so my vote is going to beasts.

Heavans is handy because against the core troops of a lot of race we have a 2+ save and the first spell in heavens lets you re-roll Armour saves, rolls to hit and wound, of 1, also on the charge we wound on 2+ against most core choices so the re-roll is handy
