Grey Seer, Skalm (Ruin lore, + 13th spell)
Warlord, wizard hat, shield
Chieftain, BSB, shield
3x30 Clan Rats, shields, standard, musician, Plague Wind mortar.
2x50 Slaves
45 slaves
2x6 Gutterrunners, poison slings
2x Rat Ogre packs (3 rat ogres + master moulder with great weapon + master bred rat, + 1 pack master)
2x warp lightning cannons
2x Plague claws

Idea is to put slaves on point, backed up by clan rats for fire and leadership support.
4 warmachines and gutter runners pepper the enemy, and the 2 packs of rat ogres are around to clean up the leftovers (17 S5 attacks, 2 S6, 2 S3, 5S5 stomps)
Warlord is around as general, just for some fun, possibly some nice additional spell options, and to split the targeting off the grey seer some.

I like that this list uses the one rule I never see folks use or slaves (life is cheap). Overall I see this as a pretty good list and what lore would you want with the hat (if you got the choice) for this lsit

drop the master moulder, if he gets challenged he'll be destroyed and hes a waste of points dropping one in each uniit could give you like 30 more slaves

Yeah, Master Moulders are treated as champions, which means they go in the front rank. The enemy then directs attacks on them for the easy CR and they die. Don't bother.

No masters stay in the second rank but they are champs

The FAQ address that as unit champs they must be in the front row. However, you can put them on the end of a unit to avoid or reduced the number of attacks coming their way.

Also remember that (barring a special rule or wargear) enemies can not challenge your MM directly. They say who they're challenging with, and then you pick the model that accepts. The Master Bred Rat Ogre is a unit Champion as well, and thus he is able to accept challenges. Makes for a sneaky trick when someone challenges thinking they'll get the MM, and ends up with a frenzied Rat Ogre gnawing their face off.

Master Moulder is cheap, WS5 and T4. Against anything significant, the Master Bred Rat Ogres would step up and put the smack down.
29 points is a great deal for WS5 S6 T4 W2.
Yeah, often he will die before he swings; but he's a 29 point upgrade; what do you expect?
From what I've seen (I've fought a lot against these guys), I end up only doing 1 wound, about as often as I do 2 wounds, or 3 wound, or 4 wounds to the Master.
If I only do 1, he swings back; if I do 3 or 4, I just wasted combat res since it doesn't carry over (Master Bred absorbs challenges).

The Hat is so random, it's tough to say.
Basically, if I get a spell that boosts combat ability, or really gimps my opponent, I keep death frenzy if I can. Outside of that, I'll swap death frenzy, skitterleap or warplightning to pick up the 13th spell. I always want scorch and cracks call if it's an option, and would keep Warpgale vs a shooty opponent (didn't take storm banner).

In a test roll, I ended up with fire, and got flaming sword and fire cloak, and the seer had 13th, death frenzy, cracks and scorch.
In theory, I could have a unit of slaves toss out 50 attacks that hit on 4's (sometimes 5's) and wound on 3's/4's (wounds anything on 5+).
Yeah, if I had that combo, I would go horde formation.

I don't expect the hat to be game winning, but it is fun, and can give you some pretty good options. Last time I used it (Ogre Tyrant), I ended up with Soul Blight, which let my S4 ogres wound on 3's, and the -1 Strength made the T5 ogres only get wounded on 6's. And that was against chaos warriors!
Also, having another level 2 for dispelling can be good when your main wizards gets a very unlucky roll.
