Apparently one of the top victorian players was caught using loaded dice. Tragic and pathetic in so many ways :(

It has been been confirmed, so dice have been cut in half

His dice were water tested, he then withdrew/was ejected from the event.

The member is currently a victorian member of the australian team challenge. He was actually called out about loaded dice earlier in the year at another event.

Its a small world, wont be long before every TO knows who it was.

Its a sad, sad day when it stops being a game and you go to these lengths to win.

Where is the sense of accomplishment?

Were they water tested before or after they were cut in half? I guess I'm wondering if they used repeated rolling or weighting to figure out how it was loaded.

Imagine the feeling when you position your tanks, engines idling, landing gear deployed for a low profile, with firing solutions along a key bottleneck. Then some fether lands a dreadnought behind them in a giant heat shielded coke can.

Im only reporting what a friend told me who was actually present. He is a TO but would not reveal the individual's name so that I could shame him here.

I wish people would just play their hobby for the love of the game, not solely the rush of the win....

Yeah I agree, I don't see the point of playing if you only win, but you know you win because you cheat, not because you are skilled.

When I hear Victorians, I think this:

Was he wearing a waistcoat at the time of the alleged cheating?

On topic...if you're good enough to be one of the 'top players' in an area, you don't need weighted dice. If you're not, then using weighted dice isn't going to make you a top player.

I can't imagine why someone would cheat like this, especially in wargaming.

This is just sad. It has happened at a Tournament in my area. People also have made dice with two 4s on the dice. It's a game, not a battle for your soul goddamnit.

How did they confirm, what did they cut it in half with and what did they find inside?

I have pondered this also.

When you walk away from the table the only thing you accomplish is a hollow victory. You add a point to your tally, but you do not truly Win.

Perhaps this individual wished to further remove the true random variable (or as much as possible) from his wargaming.

Yes, Lists and Generalship count towards wins, but poor rolling can turn a Win into a Loss. Therefore, while I can appreciate this fact, I still disagree with the use of loaded dice.

Loaded dice, bah.

Go to Cardiff and everyone is using the dice with the big designs instead of sixes. Those seem to roll a lot more sixes than they should.

(I know, I know, it's probably nothing).

The fact that this happens and that the current meta is what it is makes me sad. I play mainly for tactics and the randomness of the dice, I also like assembling the models. Notsomuch on the painting...

Just so rumours don't abound. No dice were cut nor were they water tested (the player refused either and withdrew from the tournament). It seems an investigation by a group of TO's lead to a sting operation with a large body of evidence gathered. The dice in question were not just loaded to role sixes but were programmable to roll what the player wanted. They are oil filled with a small lead weight inside. I have seen and rolled these dice.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eVPOX1Tr0X0

The player in question has shown no remorse nor issued any apologies. He faces a minimum 2 year ban from some TO's (including other gaming system competitions), some have given a life ban.

How do you program dice

It's something like a sticky oil or wax in the hollow inside. When you tap the dice sharply on the table, the ball bearing sticks to the bottom. Then you roll them on a softer surface. Perhaps there is a hole for the ball bearing to drop into, and a bit of vacuum pressure from the oil helps it stick there.

Either that or the advert is a fake.

It sounded a bit much that they "cut his dice in half". Don't forget, a person's dice are their personal property, a TO can't confiscate them and cut them up.

I think it's perfectly reasonable in order to investigate substantive claims of loaded dice.

If the dice are innocent they can easily be replaced, and an apology given.

If not, the cheat can go to the police and complain about criminal damage to private property. I am sure they would give his accusation the attention it deserves.

I happen to agree.

I would much rather have my dice cut and replaced than be accused of cheating, but then I don't cheat in the first place.

with dice rolls, anyway.
