For me, it's Fallout 3 hands down but it seems to be a very contentious issue.

Damn you two! Did you guys play it at launch? For me, it was buggy as hell. Not at first but the further I got away from Goodsprings, the buggier it got.

It wasn't that buggy at least for me.
Also, yes played from launch.

They have a thing you can buy now for the PC that has FO1, FO2 & FO Tactics. I should get it and play them again. I loved FO2 but seriously: bugmania! Apparently, I am unlucky with the bugs.

I played it from launch on my pc and yeah it was buggy as hell but only in major ways like bluescreening twice per hour.

Or getting stuck in bizzare endless cycles. Pretty much a good idea to save every 2 minutes in FO1&2.

The only bug I ever encountered in fallout three [played it on ps3] was when i tried to use a double barreled shotgun from point lookout with only one shell in VATS, the game got stuck in a loop repeatedly trying to fire and making the no ammo click.

FO3 was the game changer. Not to say that 1 & 2 weren't great in their time but in my opinion they've turned out to be a prologue to the true greatness of FO3. Similarly, New Vegas was its epilogue: Obsidian introduced some characterful tweaks but basically (and intentionally; no harm, no foul here) coasted on Bethesda's innovations.

You're talking about FO3? FO3 is by far the least buggy.

Yeah I've never had a problem that actually affected my ability to play the game in FO3. Can not say the same of FO2 and FO:NV. The funniest one I had was when a Gigantic supermutant inexplicably shot 200 feet in the air then plumeted to his death. Worked out for me so can't complain.

The problem with poll threads is people do drive-by posting. They just shoot off their choice and flee the scene. Come on, Dakkanauts, no need to just post that you were the one who just +1'd option X. Post a few explanatory comments else it's just spam (which is against the rules.)

But the good thing about polls is it determines if the vocal minority is really the minority or not. Although its early it does seem NV is most popular. Going to straight up copy and paste a problem I had with that one:

One thing that's really weird about NV is its more like Oblivion than FO3. Which is weird because its made by the guys who did FO1 and 2. Whereas FO3 is made by the guys who did Oblivion. Way too much of what is basically Alchemey in the game. I have absolutely no intest is saving my shell casings to make my own frikkin bullets.

For example, I found a new blueprint and was like "sweet is this going to be a blueprint for gun that like shoots railway spikes so that when you blow a guys head off it literally nails his head to the wall!?!"

Nope, its a recipe for stew. Fail NV, Fail.

I like NV better because it was the first Fallout game I had played. It holds a special place in my heart.

Imo new vegas had a more realistic slant ie having to eat sleep drink.I also liked recruiting the more fleshed out companions. Also i felt the weapons had more variety at least in appearance.

Not really. Dakka polls determine nothing at all. The best they do is spur people into participating in a thread. But even that fails if folks just post what they voted for.

Other than alchemy, what makes you say so? Frankly, I liked that NV had more "survival/scavenging" features. FO3 was certainly a more serious game and I think it was supposed to be a more cinematic game, so I understand why Bethesda left it out and Obsidian put it in.

Those are great points, especially regarding companions. I'd say NV's biggest accomplishment was making companions worthwhile.

Yes, Hardcore mode is something I really enjoy and that's a point for NV. However, Hardcore mode isn't hard in NV because NV isn't....grimdark for lack of a better term. Fresh water and fruit are everywhere. All I keep thinking about when managing hardcore mode in NV is how hard this would be in FO3. NV doesn't do a good job of portraying how hard it is to get clean water and food in a nuclear wasteland; it just makes my bullets heavy.

Remember, per Fallout 1 & 2, Cali (and by extension big, unimportant Nevada) did not get the barrage that our (my) nation's capital suffered. I am still wondering why the DC Wasteland wasn't just a slab of black glass.

Little bit of deja vu here but yes: It's totally logical but that doesnt mean it's good. It's there was some sort of mini-expansion that put Hardcore Mode into FO3 I'd be all over that. Though i'd like the part about ammo weight to be a seperate option: it makes grenade and missle launchers a non-option.

It will be interesting to see what of NV ends up in FO4.

I can't recall: do caps have weight in HC mode?

No they don't, thank God. I'm totally a pack rat in these games, I can't part with anything. I basically always have a spare 1/2 lbs. "ED-E carry my smokes".

Why shells but not caps? Don't mean to be herpy-derpy here but is is hardcore or semi-hardcore? I skipped right past hardcore because the idea seemed a little ridiculous to me. Sure, I like that they made it an option for those that want it -- and for those that don't.

It's even more convoluted then that. Shell casings and caps are weightless but bullets aren't. Like an energy cell has weight but a spent one does not. Also stuff doesn't instantly heal you it takes a while. I lke the idea of food, water and sleep meters becasue I feel that is true role-playing but the main thing you'll feel when playing in that mode (which you should try) is "I had no idea microfusion cells were so heavy".
