It reminds me of D&D sessions where everything (including the fun) stopped while the PCs figured out how much gold they could carry.

Then you're saying Hardcore Mode must be the work of the devil?

No, electronic devices that do math for you are a godsend. So I guess that makes D&D the work of the devil, though they've been saying that for years.

Theres a fan made bug fix for fallout 2.

I think you can find it over at no mutants allowed.

My favourite was 1&2. Fallout 3 and New Vegas, although enjoyable, did not feel like a true Fallout game to me. Fallout 3 in my personal experience was probably one of the buggiest things on the planet, even after patches (the game would either freeze up or the character get stuck on terrain). In comparing 3 with New Vegas, New Vegas was definitely better as it was more faithful to the series. In comparing the originals with the newer games, the older games were definitely less buggy.

I would recommend to anyone wanting to play Fallout 2 again to install the Restoration Project mod on No Mutants Allowed. The mod pretty much does everything from bug fixes, enabling higher resolution as well as adding extra content that Interplay never got around to adding.

FO 1 and 2 were great for their time. FO 3 had a great story but it had just the one ending. FO NV Takes the cake tons of story branches and an option to play out like a survivalist, then on top of it the casinos where your money can be made or you can become dinner.

I see a lot of people saying NV is more Fallout than FO3. Why? To me FO3 is the perfect 3D translation of Fallout. NV is "Eldar Scrolls 4.1: Nevada". Don't remember picking ingredients off of plants to make stew in FO2.

I think it's because the original Fallout games took place in California/Nevada.

Haven't played the originals (want to though), also can't decide if I like 3 or NV more because I enjoy them for different reasons.

If so, that is a terrible reason. Back in my day, by which i mean FO1-3 I would kill people for some type of money and then use it to buy bullets. Now I got to find some scrap metal, melt it down into lead, then some shell casings and some gun powder - a primer thing and make my own bulets....Godamnit! I will bring you the head of your enemy and you will give me caps to buy bullets!! That's Fallout.

And you can do that in NV nothing says you have to make your bullets gak you can just kill people for their bullets if you want that to is part of the fun of a FO title.

Runnin up on ya.

My favorite was the original, Wasteland. Now that was a game.

Six mistakes mankind keeps making century after century: Believing that personal gain is made by crushing others; Worrying about things that cannot be changed or corrected; Insisting that a thing is impossible because we cannot accomplish it; Refusing to set aside trivial preferences; Neglecting development and refinement of the mind; Attempting to compel others to believe and live as we do

It's made by EA not a good sign.

I'm not sure which one to vote for as I've enjoyed all 4 of those, plus FO:Brotherhood of Steel; each for it's own reasons. Each has had it's bugs. My car kept getting stolen in FO2 and FO3/NV I keep getting stuck in VATS mode when people are attacking. All of them annoying... FO2 was the only one I didn't finish thanks to the bugs though

At the moment NV is foremost as it's the one I'm currently playing and I prefer the 3d aspect more than the isometric view of FO, FO2 and BoS.

I've yet to play through NV in hardcore mode... but it's on the list of things to do once all of the dlc is out.

Oh, but the immersion! It's not so much the ammo weight thing that makes hardcore mode for me, which I admit is kind of sketchily done, but the slow heals, no sleeping-heals, and requiring adaquate food and water. When I play the new FO games I want to feel like I am actually in a nuclear wasteland where eating and drinking are as important as picking up ammo. That being said, I still enjoyed the original 2 games far more than 3 and NV. Not to say that these games aren't good, it's just that there was something about the first two that these ones don't have. Maybe it was the writing.

Ironically I'm in the middle of my second playthrough of NV right now but I think I'm going to stop. Despite all this "multiple ending" stuff the main quest is pretty much the same thing no matter who you do it for. I think one of the reasons why I didn't like the story very much was the first time around I ended up going down the "No Gods, No Masters" path. You see the first thing I did when I met Mr. House was kill him in a fit of megalomanical delusion. I had visions of unleashing my pilfered robotic army of doom to vanquish my enemies wherever I saw fit! MWA HA HA! Errr, so that didn't happen....just ended up going on the quests that House would have sent me on anyway . Then when it came to Legion HQ I just strolled in there with Boone and slaughtered everyone. Seriously, it was a massacre.
This time around I talked to House, he's interesting but kind of a jerk. Talked to Caeser. Y'know good talk Caeser, good talk. I can see what happened there. However, after this I can see it's going to be the same stuff I did already. I think I'm just going to get the Snow Globes and be done.

This is what I can't stand about NV.

Compared to FO3's main quest? Go find Dad, go find Geck, escape Raven Rock, retake Purifier, insert/don't insert FEV and shut down/don't shut down purifier.

At least FNV gave you the illusion of choice.

Yeah but in fallout 3 you could pretty much ignore the main quest and get the most out of the game, in new vegas you are pretty much forced to do it to get most of the content.

At least it had a giant robot. And I would rather not have the choice than the illusion of such because when you pick at it like I always do you realize there's nothing there but bad scripting.

I liked three the best, though thats because my brother won't let me play the first three (1, 2, and Tactics), despite me having the only working computer in the family.....

Yeah well, not sure I want to kill kids anyway but where have you seen that in any 3d game?

Hey, at least kids made it in this time around. FO and FO2 had to remove kids due to some complaints from the censors

Only in the European version - if you play the US version they are included. Also, if you download the patch from New Mutants Allowed, it restores the kids (along with the quest content that was also bugged because the kids were missing)

Is this in terms of graphics alone? I ask because I killed what looked like a grown adult in one of the first two and got given the Child Killer trait. I then started to notice that some grown adults talked like kids.

I think they just removed them completely rather than replace with a different model. An example would be in FO2, in the Vault City courtyard area before you go into the city proper, where the tents are, there is a child running around who has lost his Mr Nixon doll - in the European version all you would see was disembodied text floating around where they had removed the child model but left the speech lines in place.
