Infiltrating Broodlord

Hello everyone,

Here's the quick & dirty of my story: 8 years ago I bought a LOT of eldar from a friend for very cheap. This was back in 4th and they were fun to play. I played with farseers, no farseers, aspect lists and no aspect lists, all mech, no mech, and everything in between. Then 5th came along. My wife always plays bugs and I found myself on the losing end every time because of the small number of points she prefers. Against my very good and smart opponents I found myself doing one of two things: Going all mech or throwing something an infiltration/deep trike/scouting list their way. Then the infiltration list died off and for the past 3 years I've found myself doing many variations on a theme: Meched up aspects/troops, guardians with heavy weapons, and either walkers/wraithlords.

In short, I just don't play eldar any more. I've grown weary of the playstyle. It's the same reason I got rid of all my high elves: Having extremely squishy troops overly powerful elites... Except eldar elites just aren't that powerful anymore. The only things I really like in my eldar are anything that's wraith based and striking scorpions. Those are the only guys I really like. Everything else just doesn't work for me. But I can hear my friends saying, "don't sell them! Their next edition will be fantastic and you'll have sellers remorse for having gotten rid of them!"

Even if they do get an amazing codex, I'm still not going to enjoy playing them that much... Until wraithguard get finecasted/plastic'd so they aren't $15 for a single metal model on a 25mm base, there's nothing that holds me to them. Wraithguard/lord's are the only things I truly do enjoy playing even though they are a one trick pony. I play orks, skaven, bugs, and lizardmen. I like having high T troops, fast fragile units, hordes of disposable troops, and ranges of HQ options. For example, I love hive tyrants, but at 95 points I really love tyranid primes as well. I like skink chieftans but scar vets are amazing as well. You just don't have that kind of variety with eldar or high elves. You have fast, fragile, specialty HQ and the a monster. That's it. Or specialty ones for 230 points that have no invul.

Should I just sell all my Orange-dar except for wraithlords and the one aspect I really like? I've gotten to the point where I just don't have any extra money to put into this hobby so I'm selling what I don't use to pay for new stuff. I've gone through a lot of stuff but there's still that one big box of eldar... 3 grav tanks, 10 of every useful aspect, 30 guardians, 20 avengers, farseers, warlocks, a nicely painted avatar, walkers, etc. It could bring in a lot of money but is it worth giving up something that I spent so much time on even though it doesn't get much use?

How long have they been sitting on the shelf collecting dust? If it has only been a couple months, wait a few months more.

If it has been over a year, then you might as well sell them.

Of course your friends do have a point. When the next codex comes out, will you want to play them again?

Are you hurting for a few extra dollars?

Perhaps you can have the army about to let friends borrow, to try out the game, and get addicted to the plastic crack (pusher man).

In the end it is up to you. There is no end of people who will buy them from you. Maybe not me, because I just bought another 3k points worth, but plenty of others who play them.

Tis a shame to hear, but if they're doing nothing i'd get sell them, to a loving home no less!

They do sit in all the generally bad zones of play/list style: high point cost. elite army, not very durable, not flexible
Where as take something like grey knights: high point cost. elite army, tough, flexible

I found them difficult to play for a long while (about 6 months) but i got it eventually. Now when those wins do come around feels much more rewarding, can't imagine how rewarding it would be for a necron player

Don't sell them unless its a last resort to maybe buy a car to get you to work to keep a house to live in.

Put them up, admire them and think how smart you were that you waited for the new codex.

This seems like a solid idea...
If you start to need the money then sell them but until then hanging onto them might be a good idea.

Keep them . Mechdar is pretty solid, and Footdar can be too with Avatar/Eldrad support.

Thats what I'd do...

Good responses all. I've had them for almost 7 years now and they've been out 3 times in two years... I just find bugs and orks much more fun to play. That's just my playstyle I think.

I know I'd feel like a genius for having kept them, but even in a new edition they're still going to retain their same character: High cost, fragile, specialized units with nifty guns and special powers.

What I would love is to have an all wraith list like I said before. But I don't exactly need all the aspects to make that happen. Or the vehicles, especially since I don't own any prisms.

What I'm getting at is that my playstyle has changed over the past few years. I like hordes and monster lists. They may not be effective but I love blocks of tough infantry too. Read warriors, nobz, and saurus for fantasy.

Is it worth keeping something that doesn't interest me? Even in the last edition when they were fancy, I still played bugs more because it was more fun. Remember the last bug codex and how customizable it was? Those were fun times. Even between the current poop-dex and the current pointy-eared dex I still prefer poo... It gives me more options to field my converted stuff and stuff that is somewhat unique.

More decisions...
