Well, that depends. Are you able to support yourself after games day?

All I am saying is don't go to Games Day if it means you might end up out on the Streets. That, would be rubbish.

Two words that are useful to any that work in fast food/supermarkets:
Violent... Diarrhoea...
They HAVE to let you have a day off (in case it's food poisoning), and they aren't going to call you bluff on it (i.e. make you turn up with a turd in a baggie) and you can just say that you didn't answer the phone because you spent the entire day on the porcelain throne
But I would suggest trying to get some time off (even if it's unpaid time off) or switch shifts with someone so you have the Games Day and then keep your normal job...

I've found claiming a migrain works wonders. No way to prove that it did/didn't happen, and most doctors will write you a note after the fact. You go _nowhere_ during a migrain usually. And as I actually get the damned things, I have precedent But in response to the OP, depends on if you'll be able to survive after the fact. as awesome as being paid to go to games day would be, being homeless puts a real damper on my gaming. OTOH the stink wouldn't be that different than some of the people at the game stores...:x

You say that like it's hard to fake a doctor's note.

Here is how to get automatic sick leave when working at Wendys.
Step 1: Eat a number 1, large sized.
Step 2: wait a few days.
Step 3: claim food poisoning and go to Chicago.
on second thought, maybe this isn't such a good idea. there is the chance you might actually get food poisoning and be unable to go to either Chicago or Work.
Better plan,
Claim food poisoning from eating breakfast/dinner at Dennys. they will likely belive you. this could work if you claim you ate there for breakfast and while working that day you can go to the bathroom multiple times. when asked why you keep going to the Lue say you are having the runs. if told to go home, accept the offer and be reluctant. apoligise(but only once) and then leave. Later, tell them you might need a few days off.
Claim you might need more days then you will actually use. if you need 2 days for Gamesday say you need 3. then you can come back a day early and say you got over it.

You don't even have to try and fake a signature. Every doctor's signature I've ever seen has been illegible scribble. Just put the pen down, move your hand in a random fashion, and you have a doctor's signature. OTOH generally doctors notes are on their office letter head. That may be kinda hard to get a hold of/fake.

naw just flirt really hard with the receptionist and swipe some. then get a friend to fill out and scribble the note for you, then you can hinestly say that you didn't sign it if pressed.

Can't you just trade shifts with someone? If you have someone ready to fill your spot, when you ask your boss there usally willing.

Aye, in menially low skill labour jobs like fast food, grocery, retail, etc, the standard has always been to trade some shifts with someone else. Odds are, someone there would be happy to pick up some extra hours for the $$$. Managers usually ok this if you work out the details through them.
But quitting a job, to go to a gaming convention is overall a bad idea. I don't care how awesome the gaming convention is, it will reflect badly on you in front of future potential employers.
