Afternoon DakkaDakka,

So I was playing fantasy yesterday with my buddy and neither of us have played in over a year. I picked up dwarves and he Plays LM big stegadon LM. So if I hit the stegadon with a stone thrower and the dot is over the steggie, do I need to randomize between the skink crew and the steggie? Secondly how does this work for bolt throwers and the cannon. Any help by tomorrow would be great as that is when I have my rematch.

Someone correct me if I'm wrong (don't have my books at GF's), but you are right about the stone thrower; once you've hit the steg, the randomise you gets the high strength hit, everyone else is classed as been hit by the lower strength.

Bolt throwers at as in 7th ed. Roll to hit & again randomise. Only 1 element (steg, crew, shaman) gets hit

Cannons get the real bonus under 8th
If you hit the steg, then EVERYONE gets hit at strength 10 - cannons are really good monster killers nowadays

Ford - sorry but wrong. The Stegadon STILL has its own randomisation rules, therefore you only hit one item -crew, priest (if on) or the steg, and thats for all templates and shooting.

Against any other ridden monster or chariot you would be correct, but the steg is special...

Aww damn, Nos, I got it wrong again.
Should know better as a friend has ran steg spam (Hmmm, that would be a tasty burger . . . ) which proved frustrating when you only kill a single skink crew.
Am glad I qualified by post by saying I don't have my rulebooks with me

Why is the steg special? i could understand basic steg or the ancient steg having randomisation but when its a skink hero on it is just bent

Because the army books override the main rule book.

If you think stegs are odd, wait until you come across DE hydras

Monsters and riders don't have their own rules (generally). Stegs have a whole paragraph on it. Once you do dmg to the unit: Stegadon, then you jump onto the special rules section for that unit.

The army books override the general rules in the BRB as stated above. Where you run into issues is when 2 army books have special rules and then there's usually a FAQ that says something like, player whose turn it is decides.

If I am reading the rules and your answer correct, I hit the Stegadon model with a cannonball, I roll and hit the crew, exactly how many crew do I hit? Is it 1 or all, also, what would the answer be for a stone thrower hitting the same target?

Sigh i wish GW would give the steg the howdah crew rule (as seen in the last two books) already.

ONE crew. Exactly the same for a stone thrower - roll and see which single member is hit.
