Hello Everyone I'm new to my Space Marines and wargaming in general and I just bought an Space Marine Tactical and Assault Squad. I was just wondering what are is the best wargear I should give to my squads that is worth it in Points value (and preferably looks cool too).
Thanks,

My tactical squads generally get fitted with a Meltagun, missile launcher, and powerfist. These get a razorback (get the razorback kits, or at least the predator/vindicator/whirlwind kits and magnetize, never the actual rhino kit. You can take the turret off the razorback and field it as a rhino, hard to do the other way around) to ride around in.
Assault squads get a pair of flamers, a powerfist, and melta bombs. If I was running blood angels, the flamers would hands down be replaced with melta guns.

Thanks you! Gamza, For the plasma pistols on the Assault squads, you suggest two plasma pistols, but personally im wondering if the 7 str. 2 AP is worth the 1 in 6 chance of dying? Is losing two of my squad after a couple unlucky rolls worth that strong of a pistol?

Depends on what one wants to do with an Assault Squad.
Plasma Pistols, in the absence of Meltas, add/increase their "threat-potential" as something that might hurt a MC or take potshots at a tanks rear-armour. Your opponent will need to react differently to them working their way up his flank than if they don't have those S7 shots on them. It just raises there "don't ignore them" profile IMO.
The perhaps other alternative would be all out anti-horde, going with Flamers and ignoring the Powerfist/Plasma. Not sure if it's worth it. Automatically Appended Next Post: GamzaTheChaos wrote:Assault squad I run in 8. I give SGT powerfist and give 2 assault marines plasma pistols.
That is actually illegal, unless the pistol goes on the SGT too. Only one pistol per 5 models in the unit. And risking your Powerfist to a get's hot has its risks too.

My personal preferences:
Tactical Squad: Eight (8) bolters, one (1) flamer, one (1) missle launcher. Sergeant has a power weapon and melta bombs.
Assault Squad: Standard equipment, deployed in a cardboard box left at home. Seriously though, if you do want to use them, then the plasma pistol is worth it. Personally, I think a flamer is awesome too.

Is losing two of my squad after a couple unlucky rolls worth that strong of a pistol? As stated above 8 assault marines with 2 pistols ( one NOT on the sgt) is incorrect I was mixing things up with Bike squads. you can go with 1 plasma pistol OR flamer and give the SGT a powerfist. the plasma pistol is worth it IMO just not on the SGT you want that powerfist to stay alive. Use the plasma pistol to stun/kill a light tank or using it to wound a MC can help a lot. I don't care what anyone says Assault marines are good. It takes half a brain to use them correctly. If you think assault marines are suppose to fly up the table and get into close combat thennn..... that's sad. lol. they fill more areas then just assault power.

Its not a 1 in 6 chance of dying. Its a 1 in 6 to take a wound. Which you get your armor save against. So its actually a 8.35% (rounded) chance of a marine dieing in a given turn. Which really isn't that bad.

Pin them to their bases. It'll be worth the effort in the long run.

use the assault marines with chainswords, bolt pistols,2 plasma pistols and a sg with power weapon and plasma pistol and combat shield. for the tactical marines give them 1 heavy weapon and 1 special weapon(missle launchers are a cheap and reliable place to start)and arm the rest with 2 pistols.even thogh you cant fire both it gives an extra combat attack for 2 pistols.give the sg whatever but a cheap and reliable method is bolt pistol and chainsword
