Is it worth it? Has anyone had success with it?

...seems to paint quite a positive picture for it. No negative points, and it seems at very least to be a very solid buy.

No offence, but I dislike it when people just tell me to go on another thread.

Apologies, though I didn't "just" tell you to go to another thread. I did provide you with the basic consensus within the thread - that it's a solid buy, with no negative points, and linked you to the thread so that you could delve into the exact reasoning.

I've never used one before, never faced one before, and linking you to an actual discussion regarding it's potential seemed more productive than just providing a single ignorant perspective.

That's cool. I've got a choice between a second monolith and Tomb stalker.

It's a solid purchase but a very niche use model. And you really need more than 1 to make it worth it, they're just so dang easy to take out since so much stuff is AP3+ and high str, or ignores armor in CC. I've used it with varying degrees of success but if you put it up against something of equal nastiness, it loses pretty quick. Since it takes up a monolith spot as well, it's a very tough call to make since they're pretty close in points. It's just hard to keep alive with no invul save, no WBB, and difficult to get cover due to it's size and the MC rules.

None of them actually used it, and while on paper it seems nice, it is still very vulnerable. It becomes a giant target symbol.

I will say though that the tomb stalker is really freakin good at eating up dreadnoughts, so long as it goes at the same time or first and gets the charge.

I would go with a second monolith. I'm not a fan of purchasing models I won't be able to use in most tournaments. If this doesn't bother you then the tomb stalker really is a beautiful model and I would buy it simply for that

I am going to get the monolith, since I need to go to tournaments with them. I made a new thread with for the list I'll be using. You can find it here.

I would also agree with a second monolith because I can just imagine how quickly this would go down to a las/plas razorback spam army or long fang spam.

It goes down pretty quick to that kind of fire. Even with deep strike, it's a very tough model to place because it is so large there is usually no place on the board to put it that leaves any decent amount of scatter room before getting a mishap.

Just think of it as the necron's version of the trygon. Big, nice model, impressive stats, close-combat beast, fire magnet and easy to kill with shooting.

I think all you guys worried about placing it due to deep strike and it getting shot by lascannons are missing a pretty decent use for it (theoretically...I just bought mine, and it's in pieces, it isn't built yet). Why not use the Tomb Stalker in the same way you might use a Ctan? By which I mean, hide it behind the monolith, use its fast (fleet) movement for countercharging any nasties that get close to your warrior/immortal/destroyer gunline? Obviously it only works with a certain kind of list, but I think it'll work well. I hope so, anyways, and even if it doesn't, you've still got a kickass model.

Two monoliths are a pain to deal with.
