What size are the bases that come in the game? 20mm or 25mm?

It's basically the same as in WFB...20mm for most infantry. Orcs, Gors, etc. are 25mm. Ogres, Minotaurs, Trolls, etc. on 40mm.

Would people give me grief for basing a Skaven warband on 25mm bases? I want to use the textured bases that come in some kits.

If someone gives you trouble for using those bases, then you probably shouldn't be playing with them. I can't imagine it would be very enjoyable.

The only thing to consider is that in mordheim, actions like intercepts, and trying to get around models are based on their bases. Having a larger base size could be perceived as taking advantage of the system, particularly as many times fighting is done in a dense urban environment where before you couldn't block someone getting around you with 2 models, now you can because they're on larger bases.

Skaven, also, have some of the largest sized warbands, with 25mm bases, they now take up 20 percent more room on the tabletop.

Just some things to consider, and of course check with your opponents or TO first.

Hello Saruus, meet Cruentus. I believe he's exactly the person you were speaking of!

As far as the bases, Breotan, I agree that most people will not have a problem with those bases. There will always be some players out there, even playing games like Mordheim where it REALLY doesn't matter, that will argue that your guys now take up 20% more of the board and blah blah blah its not fair. But that's the nice thing about Specialist Games. Those few are easy to spot and really aren't fun to play against because they don't really understand why games like Mordheim have endured.

I don't think Cruentus was out of line by saying some people might object. Base sizes clearly affect the game for the reasons he mentioned, and no one should kid themselves about that. What if I put Gretchin on 40mm bases to block alleys while creating large lanes for my shooters? (Note that movement uses base size while LOS determination uses models' visual profile.) This is obviously not the OP's example, but you can't say this REALLY doesn't matter.

The rule about needing to be able to fit your model base between other models' bases in order to charge or move past is an important one and one that comes up a lot. Obviously larger bases can cut both ways though, depending if you're the one trying to block others or move past. I've found the 25mm bases on my Orcs to be a pain when trying to move through traffic.

But the only litmus test that really matters is your gaming group, which is I think what Cruentus' final point was.

You could make these in 15 minutes with some plasticard and legal 20mm bases. In fact, they'd be even better, because there would be more diverse patterns rather than repeated ones.
