Before I put forward the questions, I need to explain the scenario first.

The other day, I used my Coteaz list that includes the Culexus assassin against a BA-Golden Army (Dante & SGs). He put everything in reserve. In Turn 2, I managed to get Coteaz, Xenos Inquisitor, Techmarine & 3 units of DCAs-Crusaders in 3 Razorbacks & a Rhino carrying the Culexus assassin within 3"-5" of my opponent's Objective counter & pop-up smoke launchers.

His turn, only a Stormraven carrying SG sqd +S.Priest & a Melta speeder came in. All his shots were wasted since I passed all my smoke launcher cover svs.

My next turn, I destroyed the Stormraven & the speeder, forcing the passengers to disembark. I sniped the S.Priest dead with my Vindicare. Then (here is the issue) I proceeded to shoot with my Culexus from the Rhino top-hatch/firing point.


Me: Now my Culexus will shoot your SGs. So lets see, Assault 2, + 1,2,3,4,5,6,7 psykers within 12"..that'll be a total of 9 S5 AP1 shots hitting at 2+ to hit & re-roll on 4+ for misses..(smiling)

BA: WTF!! How did you get 9 shots!! (Utter disbelieve)..

Me: Well, Coteaz, Xenos Inquisitor & Techmarines are psykers, so those'd be +3. Then I have 4 vehicles with Psychic Pilot rules, so +4. With the basic of Assault 2, the total is 9 shots.

BA: No way man!! Psychic Pilot doesn't mean that the vehicles are psykers man!! That's too @#$%^ even for GK man!!

Me: Well, the Psyker Pilot entry does state that vehicles with this rule entry are treated as psykers (Mastery level 1). So, I'm very sorry, they do contribute to the Culexus special shots.

BA: (Still swearing)..If this is tournament, I'm sure there'd be a lot issues man!


In the end, my Culexus destroyed the SG & a 2nd speeder that came out later. He conceded in Turn 4.


Question:
1. I believe that I was playing it right, but need further confirmation from you guys. Do vehicles with Psychic Pilot entry contribute shots to Culexus if they are within 12"?

2. Was I wrong in rolling 2+ to hit & then re-roll the misses at 4+ due to the Culexus' BS8?

3. Do I have to explain my battle plan/tactic regarding how I'd use the Culexus (especially in regard to the gaining extra shots) to my opponents in future tournaments to avoid people calling me cheating for not telling them before the game?

4. Enemy units need to pass Ld test at 3d6 if they want to shoot at the Culexus. What about a mob of 30 Orks? Do they auto pass or still need to pass Ld10 at 3d6? What about other Fearless units?


Sorry for long winded explanation earlier on. Hope you guys can shed some light. Thanks in advance.

1. No problem it clearly states in the Codex that vehicles count a Psyker Mastery Level 1, so although if it was my SG I would be rather upset, but you were playing it right. In a tournament there should be no problem either with this as it is VERY clear.
2. No this is right too, BS8 hits on 2+ with a 4+ reroll if a 1 is rolled.
3. I wouldn't in a tournament, given the answer to 1. In a friendly game maybe, depending on whether the player had played against GK before or had read the codex.
4. I would say no to auto-pass as is isn't for Morale or Pinning. It's a bit like the Dark Eldar weapons requiring a roll under the leadership or take wounds (this isn't affected by Fearless I think).

You could take 3 assassins too, (3 elite choices in a normal game) as there is no restriction or one only rule.

Excellent use of that assassin and making him do EXACTLY what his fluff and game mechanics tell us he/she should be able to do!!!

I remember posting this issue in the YMDC section, but somehow it ended up here in the Army List section. Or was it my mistake in the 1st place.


Anyway, thanks for the reply so far. I noticed that Culexus didn't get enough attention by almost everybody (being overshadowed by the Vindicare). So it was not surprising that when I put the Culexus on the table, almost everybody was caught by suprised juat how deadly it can be in the shooting phase.


I remember the look on my opponents' faces especially GK & Eldar-Jet Council when I rolled 14-18 S5 AP1 shots to their uber unit(s). I felt very bad for them, but that's how one needs to do in order to play with this particular assassin.


Has anyone else tried the Culexus yet in your list? You should!!
