Hey guys!
As a follow up to my previous thread "legality of selling bases", I come before the community again with a question. What would you all want from custom bases? Specifically, what themes/designs would you be willing to purchase? Trench bases are already planned, but what else would you all like? I am trying to gauge community interest in bases before production begins, so any and all suggestions are helpful.

Something that hasn't been done to death and is around the $.50 per peice price point.

Something that comes in a range. 25mm, 40mm, 60mm, and oval bike bases, plus the valk/monster base.

Keep the price point reasonable, at least on army kits.

Make sure there's still aplace to place the figure.

As for concepts... goth-urban is common for a reason. Gritty near future sci-fi (pipes and wires) is always good.

Things that pop into my head that I don't see much of... eldar bases, Egyptian ruins themed bases, jungle bases. Don't make them so tall that someone who uses them gets accused of "modeling for advantage".

Maybe modify the thread title to emphasis that the question is regarding bases.

RE: TOPIC

As much as I love scenic stuff, it would be nice to have some normal floor/ground bases. Some of the stuff out there is just so complex/uneven/multitiered. I just want a flat surface to put something on but thats decorated with a texture. Having sizes available for gw-sized and pp-sized stuff would be great. It sucks when I find something that would look cool but find that they don't have it in the scale I need. As far as motifs and stuff I'd like to see some concrete/asphalt type surfaces maybe with pocked with gunfire. Groundwerks does some but I'd like something that isn't so elevated and fits within the bases perimeter...I want to be able to put models base to base if possible.

Few ideas:

Bases that contain "wells" for rivers/lakes/etc, that way the purchaser just has to paint it and add the water effect - no additional modeling needed.

Bases that are sunk in slightly with a few rocks scattered about to put the model on. Add water effect, and it looks like the model is standing on some rocks in a river.

Sand Dune / Snow Dune - one base could probably double for both. Also goes with the Egyptian theme.

If I think up any others, I'll let you know.

Scribor actually does a few egyptian bases that are pretty good so I woud say that's covered unless yours can be cheaper.

But something along the lines of a daemon world would be good for me.

I play:
Imperial Fists - 9000 pts
Tyranids - 1500 pts

I would like bases that featured skeletons and/or rotting corpses in the ground of the base. I'd imagine Warhammer battlefields can be loaded with casualties.

Maybe look into using magnets.

Thanks for more replies!

Depends on the quality of the paint job and the price of course... but I bet there would be a market for it depending on the above.

Clear bases. Not just for flying things but infantry too. Im not big on bust bases for gaming minis. IMO great scenic bases are for display models.

Id love to have clear bases, as it would make them suitable for any kind of terrain/tabletop without having to go with plain black.

Whats my game?
Warmachine (Cygnar)
10/15mm mecha
Song of Blades & Heroes
Blackwater Gulch
X wing
Open to other games too

Ditton on what Ciaran said on the "wells" or "sunken in" bases.
I've actually got a couple ideas of my own on them that I've been trying to do something on. IG guardsmen slogging through mud would look great on such a base. Just remember that a model loses height if it's actually sunk into the base. So, the bottom of the base should add a little of that back.

I'd also like to see good "city fight" style bases. Much of it just looks too haphazard.

+1 on making sure there's flat places for the models to stand, too!

Dont' make it so impractical that even pinning a model on them is a chore. Bases are for a wargame first and foremost.

Ancient sewer, corpse piles, crumbling statues, trenchworks, religious icon debris (church ruins?), carved debased symbols.

Maybe a series of 10 where when you put them all together, they look like they're standing in a giant crater. More themes that fit together to make a larger design.

If you do any of these, make sure you compare what you can make with what's available.

If they're the same looking, people will pick based on price.

If yours are significantly better, they'll be willing to pay more.

I've been looking for ancient sewers, corpse piles and religious/debased symbols, but haven't been able to find them. Haven't seen craters either.

I ended up using cobblestones with runoff as ancient sewers for my Skaven.

A tile floor would be cool, suitable for painting your own mosiac.

Round lipped bases are basically all I use these days so I would request those sizes.
If you want to try army themed bases, please at least do them in a way they are appropriate for several ranges like instead of just chaos bases try chaos/hell dorado/dark age forsaken bases.

Crystalline desert or crystal cave bases ala Necron Deathworlds would be pretty cool.

Faerie Forest bases with mushrooms or rings of mushrooms (maybe segmented over several bases) would be pretty neat too.
