Can that high elf spell that removes a magic item from a character target an Arifact from the SoM book?

I guess the question is, is the weapon considered a magic weapon or is it's existence under the Artifact list make it something else.

It's still just a magic item, so anything that can target magic items should still be able to target it.

Thunderfrog has got it.
GW didn't say one way or the other.
You'll have to decide how you want to play.
Considering how crazy some of the combos are in SoM, I doubt this sort of thing will ever get a FAQ.

It's fairly simple, and doesn't need an FAQ at all.

Are Artifacts specifed as being Magic Items?

Yes - It can be targeted and destroyed by Vaul's Unmaking.
No - It cannot be targeted and destroyed by Vaul's Unmaking.

Looks pretty easy to me...

Vauls' Unmaking doesn't say "Magic Items apart from Artifacts", and Artifacts I presume do not say "Cannot be destroyed by spell or item effects"; unless there's some clause or rule in the SoM book causing confusion (which I doubt, since nothing has been quoted here) then all you do is ask yourself the question "Are Artifacts specified as being Magic Items?" and resolve depending on your answer.

Mandorallen turned back toward the insolently sneering baron. 'My Lord,' The great knight said distantly, 'I find thy face apelike and thy form misshapen. Thy beard, moreover, is an offence against decency, resembling more closely the scabrous fur which doth decorate the hinder portion of a mongrel dog than a proper adornment for a human face. Is it possibly that thy mother, seized by some wild lechery, did dally at some time past with a randy goat?' - Mimbrate Knight Protector Mandorallen.

You mean like the first line of the 2nd paragraph on pg. 52 of the SoM book where it says, "Mythic Artifacts are magic Items, albeit of an immensely powerful sort."?

Yes, just like that one. That confirms Artifacts are Magic Items, and can be targeted and destroyed by Vaul's Unmaking.
