I'm new to 40K (and DakkaDakka!) and I've read about how there used to be these massive 40K campaigns that hundreds of players would compete in and report the results back to GW who would move the story forwards accordingly. Why did they stop doing these? And will they ever do them again?

I wasn't sure, as I thought there might be "rumors" of one. Can I delete or move it myself or will a MOD eventually come around?

GW have done world-wide campaigns in the past. They usually handle them about as well as they handle everything else – terribly. The last three have ended in:

1. Draw.
2. Really lame draw (Orc Warboss knocks out the Big Bad before he can really fight the Big Hero).
3. No one knows (Chaos won... sorta... but didn’t... and... uhh... no one knows as it was never adequately explained or justified).

Their latest worldwide campaign is a ‘campaign’ in name only, as it doesn’t feature a setting or storyline outside of ‘Buy Storm of Magic and play games’.

I'm sure a Mod will be around sooner or later...

I for one would love to see a well done one. I'm not sure I'd want it having too much of an impact on fluff or setting though. Perhaps just make the campaign and its results a part of canon by referencing it in later codices and rule books, etc.
