I want to see if I can persuade the manager at my local GW to hold a sale (an impossible mission I know).
I want to go about it using the 'I'll by in bulk' angle. Because my local GW doesn't sell much. If he holds a 25% sale I buy A meganob and a space marine chaplain in TM armour. If he holds a 50% sale I buy two MANZ and a pack of Killa kans. If he holds 75% sale I buy 5 MANZ, an ork nob with waaagh banner, 3 packs of killa kans, a SM dread, a SM terminator CC sqaud, the ork codex, the SM codex, how to buld wargames terrain and the main rulebook. What do you think?
Game stores might do a deal if you ask - my FLGS will give you a small discount if you buy $100 of stuff. GW stores aren't allowed to have sales, so don't hold your breath.
A tiny tiny chance of the 25% percent, however anything more than that is verging on the impossible for a GW. Have you ever heard of them doing a sale like that before?
Roll up roll up and join Da Kroozin Klanker's squadron of Killa Kans, PM me or look at the Waagh Dakka article for info!
Also there are lots of places you can buy online if you want a discount - they give out 20% discounts and better all the time. But yeah, couldn't hurt to ask the local shop owner and see if he's willing to make you a deal.

Maybe I'm just weird and an american, but...
Can you imagine walking into a Best Buy/Frys/Walmart/whatever, picking out a LED TV, Sound System and Bluray and telling the guy that you want 75% off? You would get laughed out of the store.
Also, 'buying in bulk' is not buying a couple hundred bucks in stuff. If you really wanted bulk, you'd convince GW that you were a retailer and purchase that way.
Automatically Appended Next Post: More appropriately, if you are looking for deep discounts, you need to accept a couple things:
- GW hardly ever discounts at the retail level.
- NIB/NOS is going to be max 20-30% off from internet retailers.
- E-Bay, Bartertown, Swap Shop can net you significant discounts (50-80% off retail) for non-new items. The more damage/glue/layered paint you're willing to put up with, the more discount generally.
- Also, if you are willing to buy massive lots off the internet, you can sometimes get REALLY good deals (50+% off for complete armies that are well put together and comprehensive is not unheard of).

I hope this was an example of concept and not design, if I was your store manager and you asked for a discount over 30 or 40%, especially when you were only buying a wee bit of stuff, I would laugh in your face and make you feel terrible, kindalike this:
For it to really qualify as a 'bulk' purchase, you would need to buy thousands of dollars of stuff (before the discount was applied), we're talking like 25 baneblades, 20 stompas, 4 drop pods, 15 battlewagons, 20 trukks, and monolith just for good measure, and even then thats only like 6 or 7k in stuff, they might not be too inclined to do it. Why should GW give you a sale on 5 MANZ (mega armored nobs?), a nob w/ waaagh banner, 3 boxes of kans, a dread, a terminator squad, two codecies, and a couple of bigger books? I've walked into my flgs before and picked up at least that much stuff all in one go. Lots of other people have done the same. Thats pretty much the amount of money GW expects you to shell out for a single army. What benefit are you giving them really? Absolutely none is my guess.
The kind of bartering you're suggesting only really works if you get a lot of people together (you would need at least 100 is my guess) each shelling out at least $200. Thats a minimum $20,000 dollars all in one go, and the manager would have to at least consider the opportunity before he shot it down, since that kind of money (depending on location) could cover his utilities and/or rent costs for the year. Even then, you have to consider that GW is a large company that rakes in millions of pounds/dollars a year. $20,000 is a drop of water in a bucket for them. Their shareholders wouldn't even notice if GW's annual profit dropped by that much, assuming the manager did want to make that deal, he would have to call up to his manager and he would probably be told as much. Assuming that by some stroke of luck the sale was authorized, I can't imagine them giving you more than a 10%, maybe even 20%, discount.
On the other hand, if you walked into your non-GW, mom and pop FLGS that is most likely just making enough money to stay open and pay its employees, and you had 100 people at your back each committing to $200 in purchases, you could most likely fandangle your way to a 20 or maybe even 30% discount (but certainly no more than that), since (depending on the store) they might not sell that much GW product over the course of a year.
Maybe I'm just weird and an american, but...

You are just weird and american. You won't ever see a 75% discount, but you might be able to negotiate $100 off the price if the store is based on commission sales (Best Buy. Never heard of Frys before), but if you're buying an entire home entertainment system, you're shelling out a couple thousand dollars. Furthermore, its becoming increasingly common (especially in other countries, and especially especially in China and Japan) for barter groups to form (there are entire forums dedicated to it). Basically a bunch of people come together that would like to purchase either a specific item that comes with a hefty price tag, or would like to purchase from a range of products (like say... the GW product lines) that each pledge to spend x amount of dollars (where x varies depending on the cost of the items in question, and the number of people that are going in on the deal). The group then approaches the manager or owner (even at large chain department stores) and tells the manager that they have such and such many people each willing to purchase such and such product for however much money or for whatever much discount, etc. and the manager normally says "Thats more money in sales than I make in an entire quarter, you got yourself a deal."

They're okay. They move extra slow and hit dead last. They're durable, moderately more so than regular Nobz. Regular nobz are more affordable and can have a painboy, who makes them more durable.
From what I'm hearing of meganobz now they don't sound so good. Slow, heavy and smaller than regular nobz. Damn, those models look so cool but they need to be upgraded to plastic, NOT FINECAST!
See, good thing you didn't try to shake down your poor GW manager now. You'd be saddled with minis you didn't want.
