I have a 4 way ffa coming up where the enemies will be orks, nids, and dark eldar, we have 1500 points and my list is not able to be changed (due to campaign) it is 2 vendettas, 2 ccs with meltas, 3 squads plasma vets in chimeras, 3 infantry squads with mortars, 1 pcs with mortar, 5 hws with mortars total 1500 pts. the tables we play on have lots of cover which is why i run so many mortars. also both the nids and the orks are blob armies and will probably atack each other anyway so i'm not concerned about them, however the dark eldar guy runs LOTs of transports and is very good, so far he has not lost a match. Also i won the last big ffa so i will probably get hunted by him.

Anyway i want some suggestions on how i should go about fighting against him. His list has lots of transports and a few of those cool looking plane things (no idea what their name actually is) he has 500 points that could be anything but i suspect he will use it to get more of the same kind of things. What i am thinking i could do is scout the vendettas up then disable his flying tanks, then i want to use the vendettas and melta squad to explode as many of the transports as possible. after that i will rain mortar shells down on the troops to try to pin them down. they have weak armour so the half or so that survives that should be able to be dealt with by the plasma weapons in the chimeras. Does this strategy sound viable? what else can i do to increase my chances of success?

You should be focusing the Kabalite truebon venoms with 3-4 blastes and the ravagers/flyers. The blasterborn will be your biggest threat if you are running mech, with the ravagers close behind. Also, if he is running wyches DO NOT DEPLOY ON THE LINE (Assuming standard 24" separation.) If he can alpha strike your parkng lot you will be in for trouble. The next tactic you will have to watch out for is the venom block. If he runs lots of transports he can virtually stop your forward movement and force you to deal with the venoms instead of his anti tank. If he goes before you do not single block all of your tanks. Try to make two or three blocks that are separated but not isolated so he can't stop your movement forward. This last thing to watch out for are beast masters. They don't seem that good at glance, but 30 S3 rending attacks on AV10 on chimaeras really ruins your day and they are very durable.

Target Priority:
Blasterborn transports-> Ravagers/flyers->Beast Masters/wyche transports->Warrior venoms

Also on to your strategy do not scout with the vendettas. DE will always have a cover save if played correctly, and anything that gets close will be shot by about 12 lances from the 3 blasterborn squads.

Hope this helps .

Feasting on the souls of unworthy opponents

If you want to take the Dark Eldar down...conspire with the other guys to make a 3 way FFA.

I agree with 123- Do not deploy as far forward as you can, that's just asking to be assaulted on the first turn, which is definately not what you want. Also, try and blow up the Raiders or Venoms which contain Kabalite Trueborn, they are suprisingly powerful yet so fragile that even blowing up their transport can easily result in the death of the vast majority of the unit. (Pretty much whenever I lose one of my raiders, any wyches or warriors inside die, as they invariably haven't earnt any pain tokens yet).
