could anyone make a generic space marine army list FULL WITH HEAVY BOLTERS.....please.....i love them...they are my favorite weapon..type thing...

Just grab the codex and go through it, basically everything in it can take heavy bolters. The problem with a list like that is it will struggle against stuff like monsterous creatures and vehicles. So take scouts for the heavy bolters with special amunition and the standard predators for their autocannons rather than devistator squads.

I'm not sure if dreadnoughts can take them, but if they're able to I'd suggest them for their strength 10 melee attacks.

Im almost positive dreads can take heavy bolters. But yea all heavy bolters would be a fun challenge to play with. Youd certainly bump your shot count up by a gak load

Heavy Bolters are really inferior to Autocannons and Assault Cannons in generally every way. Autocannons can actually inflict ID on things and kill skimmers pretty easily, while Assault Cannons mow over infantry.

That might be true, but the point of a themed army is to things out of the ordinary. Its many times more fun, but also alot harder to play with. Id say if you can do decent to well with a super themed army, youd be a better then average player

The deal with HB is that they are not in any way preferred weapons. You get them on many things by default, but they just don't make sense in terms of points and versatility on things like tacs, especially seeing as they are Heavy.

It's one of those weapons you tend not to take. When you buy a Speeder w/ HB, you buy it for its speeding properties, not for the HB.

Sorry to burst your bubble, but, as n0t_u said, it will struggle against MC and mech, which includes many armies that aren't Orks or Tau.

It's your game though. I'd personally recommend Speeders, Speeder Storms, and Attack Bikes if you're looking for HBs.

The point you guys are missing is the OP didnt ask for HB army that he could go and win tournies with. That wasnt mentioned at all, not even remotely. So when that isnt mentioned, you have to leave competitive thinking out of your points. Yes autocannons are generally better all around, sure missile launchers are free and far superior to a HB in tacticals, was that what he was asking for? Nope. He wants ideas on an army full of heavy bolters, thats what you should focus on.


Also OP - post this up in tactics, youll get FAR more ideas on how to maximize your HB output

exactly just wanna have fun with my favorite weapon....and uh....how...do i change it to tactics?

In a codex 1500 pt Space marine army

HQ:
Say 200 points on whatever you want. Recommend chaplin w/ CC oreintated command scuad

Elite:
Dreadnoughts with TL heavy bolters, heavy flamers and drop pods
Techmarines with Heavy bolter servitors (Hang these back at the firing base of your heavy support

Troops:
Combat full Marine squads. 5 w/heavy bolter and 5 w/meltagun, sgtw/combi melta in a razorback w/TL heavy bolters
Scouts with helfire heavy bolters

Fast attack:
Land speeders w/heavy bolters and heavy flamers
Attack bikes w/heavy bolters. But you might as well take land speeders

Heavy suppory:
LR transporting HQ and command squad or something
Predators w/heavy bolters and Autocannons



You could get about 10 heavy bolters and 7 TL heavy bolters into an army while still keeping it effective. Any more than that and it would struggle against heavy armour and big things


Thats 30 S5 shots and 21 TL S5 shots

However, it is important that the OP is aware of these considerations when building his list.

I'm actually quite proud to find yet another user who follows his fluff and army look over tactics. I apologize if I came across as condescending.

You could boost your effectiveness against armour slightly by adding missile launchers to speeders. Gaining 2 S8 krak rounds could be useful though it will cost you sum other weaponry

Yes, I totally agree. I play a themed Ork army myself, I'm trying to represent an extremely rich band of freebooters, so I'm using some things that might not be too useful, but fun.

i have a lot of respect for oother fluff first players, such as people that play mandrakes cause they like the models, or 2000 pts of grots simply to have many models on the table, or tau players who use aun'va
