I've been building my White Scars army for about a year now. I'm finally able post pictures of progress so far. All the bikes have been self customized. (if you didn't notice) I used plastic rod to extend the fronts to give the bikes a look to resemble a chopper. The most elaborate built bike is my stand in for Kor'sarro Khan though I may convert an actually Khan model that I got for christmas to be on a bike. I've built about 2500 its thus far. This is the stuff of which I am most proud. I still have a lot of work to do but its work in progress definitely. Plan on trying to get my stuff updated more often if I get positive feedback. Let me know how it looks to you guys.

Small update.

Received another 5 bikes in the mail the other day. Currently in the process of building those. Planning on magnetizing them so they could be played as either regular bikes or a command squad for Khan. Storm shield arms came in so now my TH/SS termies are complete. Really like a few of the poses that came to be from them. Will try to get pictures up as soon as possible.

Also bought 6 more bikes a couple nights ago Ebay says they were shipped yesterday I believe. That should bring bike total to 25 regular. Need another attack bike and I can start running 2 full squads of bikes.

Eventually plan on building up to a full Battle company. Sitting at 3 tac squads and with 2 attack bikes I will be at 3 Bike squads. Should be interesting to see something like that hit the field some time.

Played a couple games recently. 1 against GK and another against BA. Lost pretty handily to GK and fought reasonably evenly against the BA though I ended up pulling out the win. GK's astound me on how they can play like that. Before I thought they were just super broke in CC. this game I was killed even worse in shooting. They are a really difficult army to overcome. Those default power weapons just suck the life out of me. Add them in with ridiculous grenades that even out our toughness and Im hurting. I'm also learning that I wish I had more control over my reserves. Being forced to bring everything in on turn 2 do to "lucky rolls" really hurt me against GK. I'd prefer to have a steady stream of units feeding in. Well till next time. Hope to be back with pictures.

Been too long since an update but Ive been able to build all of the bikes I posses. I have a total of 20 regular bikers w/ 2 having meltas,3 plasma, 3 sergeants (powerfist, power sword and custom power lance). I also built an amazing looking command squad. Finally started putting more paint to models. have to wait for some red paint to come in before getting super detailed into them but have black and a chome look to all the previously pictured models. Also have a vindicator and modded out a custom landspeeder typhoon. Gonna try to get more pictures up before long to show off more progress. Stay tuned, plan on a ton of progress in the next month.

hmm, initial start of the thread was January, not sure if i should post, but you have posted with an update(?) so it should be ok?

Anyway, i like your army! lack of painting aside, your bikes look really cool! I especially like your base conversions.

I am starting a White Scars army in the next week or so, so this is some really good inspiration!

Please post picks of your progress since January!

Keep it up,
Zambro

I apologize for the lack of pictures. I don't own a camera and kinda forgot about this blog for a little. Have a few friends coming in town for some quality 40k time and one of them should have a camera with them. To those means I should be able to get new pictures.

Well as I promised here is the update for progress on things. Didn't end up with alot of pictures of my painting that I've done though on the one it shows all the furthest I've got on any biker. Everything is still very rough. just trying for a very basic table top quality to have them ready for a big apoc game at the end of july. The command squad I am extremely proud of. Be gentle people I'm doing what I can while also trying build my tyranids force. Planning on a lot of work in the next few weeks.

Nothing new here but a few more perspective shots. I got the entire army on part of a table. Built my list for the Apocalypse game I will be playing with quite a few others will be playing at the end of the month. My list ended up rounding out at about 3650 total. I will end up borrowing a second drop pod from a friend and also an assault squad. Trying out a few special characters such as Sergeant Telion and Brother Sergeant Chronus. Obviously Telion will be with the scouts while chronus will ride aboard the Vindicator. Both models allow modifiers to BS traits. With Telion the idea of a BS 6 missle launcher sounds promising while I'm up in the air on Chronus. BS 5 on the Vindicator seems iffy as to whether it will be effective at all. Bright side is that if the vehicle is destroyed I am able to pull Chronus out and run him around with a Servo-arm. Don't know what to expect from our Apocalypse game. It will be my first time playing. I believe that one player is bringing around 14,000 pts of Orks. That much force under one persons control seems formidable.

Also got in a couple of very interesting games tonight. The first was the Broken Alliance game type from the 5th ed. BRB. It was 2000 pts of my Scars vs. BA vs. IG. BA doubled up on LR's and brought death company tricked out with PW's and hammers. IG brought a total of 3 leman russ' a banewolf and a chimera. Essentially the BA got mostly blasted off the board before dealing too much damage while the guard who happened to share my table edge was able to hammer away at me pretty effectively. I held out well but still ended up unable to hold onto enough objectives to escape with a victory.

The next game was a 2 on 2 battle 1850 a piece. WS, GK, IG and BA all participating. We each wrote our lists and then rolled off to see what teams would be and it ended up with Scars and GK vs IG and BA. IG essentially ran the same list as he did not have as many points as the rest of us to choose from. BA brought several assault squads with priests, a Baal, and a Stormraven with LC teminators and a couple special characters inside. GK was 4 Razorbacks with HB as transports. Then 2 strike squads and 2 purifier squads, a couple inquisitors, the assasin with the awesome sniper rifle, and a couple auto cannon dreads. I took a different rout then my normal 2 tac squad and multiple bike unit list. Instead I brought:

Bike squad
2 melta
1 sergeant with PF
attack bike with MM
5 filler bikers

Bike squad
2 plasma
1 sergeant with PW
5 filler bikers

5 man sternguard in drop pod- sergeant PS

5 man assault temies

5 scouts 4 snipers 1 ML

5 scouts 3 shotguns 1 HB and sergeant with PF and PP

2 seperate Typhoon land speeders

The list did pretty well. It was different to play with out the use of tac marines. No rhinos to sit and hide inside. Not sure how the list would hold on its own with out the major buff that is GK. We got a good laugh when our GK player said that his army is not a shooty army. Also actually ran Kor'sarro with the Command Squad this game instead of using him to buff one of my normal bike squads while the command squad hunted big units. Doing this allowed the Command squad to charge vehicles and and due to furious charge land glancing hits into rear armor on 5s instead of the 6s. The command squad ended up destroying 2 Leman russ tanks. CC scout squad didn't do much but I played it poorly and it was perceived as a bigger threat then it really was. Snipers did well enough to continue winning me over though new 6th ed rules makes them almost an auto take. TH/SS terminators are always rockstars though they got tarpitted too long by a sentinel. Other bike squads were medium over all. They just were not able to get into position to be used effectively. Though again I would like to see this list attempt to perform in a game without GK soaking up all the spotlight. Overall a fun night though.

As promised a few more pictures.

Both our games yesterday were exciting as ever. I think I liked our broken alliance game more than the team game. One day I will figure out how to beat those nasty Ward Knights... 18+ hours of off and on 40k is always a great way to spend the day. I believe that we all learned new things and we had fun running new lists.

I'm always looking forward to your conversions and try to keep up and beat you to the most awesome mini... Its nice to see you getting paint on them after being primed for so long...

Finally got some more painting done today. 9 more bolter marines and a flamer marine have red on them now. Also put red on the Droppod and the Vindicator. Tried something new with the red this time around. I'd stumbled across something suggesting putting down a thin coat of yellow before the red to prevent the red from getting pink. I tried this to great outcome. The red shows through with much more vibrancy. Also the yellow act as a sort of guide for where to put red. kind of like a paint inside the lines sort of thing. Which helps cut down on red mistakes. Any mistakes with the yellow will be much easier to cover then the red mistakes will. None of the painting is finished yet but things are getting close to table top quality which is the aim for the entire army by the end of the month.

Yea ever since I got started with 40k Scars have been my favorite. Loved the fluff and the idea behind the tactics. As I was looking around at different bikes online I saw a similar but much more complicated conversion and thought that it could be done much easier. Bought plasticard rod and the ravenwing battle force and it all started there. About a year and a half into modeling and playing and I have what you see here on top of about 1250 of nids that are mostly assembled and bare plastic. As I said before I still have huge plans for these guys. I plan on building a battle company that will contain my current 3 tac squads, 2 assault squads( They sound like Scars to me and I like the conversion opportunity) and then 5 bike squads. I also have to 2 scout squads so it should make for a very large and interesting army. Granted once I get these guys painted up they may be on a slight hold while I get my tyranids atleast operational. I plan on getting another 2 more attack bikes and enough bikes to have 3 squads by the end of the year though. Also interesting news it sounds like an Awesome friend of mine bought me a Storm Talon as a sort of house warming gift. Truly I think he just wants to see it on the battle field and help convert it but I'm not complaining if I get more toys. Though this means it will now compete with my speeders for FA slots since I dont like squadrons of them.

Yeah buddy...

I saw a nice white scars assault marine in the dakka gallery. It will be weird to see a white jumper going around the field. Good luck reaching the battle company goal...

Now I'm needing some help finding something. I have the Storm talon coming in and would like to convert it to have my own personal flair. I have the idea but I'm gonna have a few difficulties modeling the thing. Looking for suggestions on where to start. Most difficult part I believe will be the hover fans I'm wanting to add to it. I remember this design from when I played Unreal Tournament 2004. These fun little zippy craft would fly all over the battle field raining destruction. Probably one of the most enjoyable moments was the Announcer saying Pancake when you brought the fan blades down on top of an enemy. Already had a suggestion to use Computer fans for the hover rotors. They could work but I worry about them being too thick though wont really know till I get the Talon here how things may fit on it. Another note on my storm talon. It will not have those bulky TL assault cannons that are stock. I have plenty of assault cannons from the raven guard sprue that will work spectacularly on it. Please bring some input. Its great to hear people appreciate my work but I'd love some constructive input as well.
[Thumb - storm talon mod 2.png]
This is the unreal tournament Mantra. I really like this design though I'm unsure how to pull it off and am worried that it could end up too small.

[Thumb - storm talon mod.jpg]
this is another possible design I've seen. The more I look at this one the more I like it. Seems almost more probable though I almost am scared away by the idea of it getting too close to a valkyre.

The stormtalon has arrived. Yet I refuse to let myself jump into building it until I've setup a reward system for myself by allowing myself to convert a group of assault marines but for each marine I convert I must put a color of paint on atleast 5 minis. Thus far I have 2 sweet conversions (I'll have pictures soon as possible) and 10 more marines that just need a little black and then touch up to fix mistakes and then they are table top quality for the big game. So I should have 10 more tac marines finished by the end of the day. Still looking for any input on the storm talon. If any one has a good idea let me know
