Resurrecting my blog since I am going to start painting... I have started on my vehicles for the practice of painting and getting used to the medium. I am a watercolorist but this is a new medium for me. My group is not WYSIWYG so if you see something thats not legal I apologize. We play for fun.

The models in my army.

25 Assault marines (tactical w/ added packs + buying a few here and there)
5 Vanguard Veterans
5 Death Company
2 Sang. Priests
1 Brother Corbulo
1 Chaplain*
1 Librarian*
1 Chapter Master Seth*
5 Honor Guard w/ meltas*
5 Sniper Scouts
5 Regular Scouts
2 Baal Predators
5 Terminators (about to magnetize them so they can be shooty or assaulty)
1 Furioso Dread
1 Land Raider

Looks like you have a nice sized army there, but why are there rino's in a DOA?

Help him grow please :3

I am actually moving towards a hybrid because it is a lot more fun to me... Its actually a baal pred, The turret is in the mail, being a college student. I didn't have a lot of money to put towards this. It is the rhino from the battle force..

EDIT: I forgot to mention the colors on the dread. Being a flexible for fun group, I often switch between furioso, libby, and DC dreads just to see which I like...

I will get better pics eventually but I wanted to show my scheme. It is red base w/ a mithril silver dry brushing on the spots that get wear and tear. Scorched jump packs and the backs of feet and legs. Brown straps on the front w/ a wash of black. Green eyes. This is my first model that I have finished painting. C&C appreciated.

Nice force so far, I can certainly sympathise with your restricted budget, I just finished university myself this summer. I found buying wrecked models off ebay or job lots helpful. Mostly I stripped, rebuilt, re-primed and re-sold to gain more money to buy new. Occasionally you do find stuff that you can keep, but mostly its better to get new boxes to build up your bits box.

As far as the model is concerned, I would consider changing the colours of the chainsword and bolt pistol to black with metal details. It will offer more contrast in the model, presently it looks a touch unfinished because the palate is a little too restricted.

Besides the battle force, 90% of my army was/is from ebay... My group of friends has a bits box thats open.
The top plate of the gun is red while the bottom plate is a black/chainmail mix. The engine on the chain sword is the same mix. I Think I will paint the rest the black as you mentioned. It breaks the redundancy of red, red, red, more red, and some red... I was thinking of painting on the knee pad as well. This is a semi-custom chapter of blood angels but want to separate the assault marines from the devs and vets and so on...

Well if you didn't want to go the traditional route of painting the helmets you could just transfer the colours the the knee pad instead.

Also forgot to mention but I would think about swapping out the mithril silver for a more subdued silver, boltgun metal being the obvious. It would match in with the weathered look you're going for with the blackened jets.

Any ideas for the basing of the force yet?

Thats the plan.

I'll try some boltgun but I like how the mithril catches the light on the table.

No plan on basing. I was going to sit down w/ one of the more experienced players/painters in my group this coming weekend and discuss what I could do.

Everything I paint will be for table quality...

Fair enough, you could still use the mithril silver as a highlight colour for the boltgun metal though.

My $0.02 on the basing, is either ash waste/industrial or urban. The contrast of the reds against a more muted greys really works. it can be dead cheap too if you get to a model train store or builders yard.

Great start just experiment with everything, and you'll find what you like I try new things all the time, and can tell from the first models I did to the ones I'm doing now that its a huge improvement.

All my mech The black and green was an old AoBR that I stripped and I'll reprime. The middle one is a baal that needs a turret, Just need to glue it.

Excellent work for a first army! I dig those knife wielding poses on the assault marines.

A lot of gamers I know stand by the "Prime + Base coat + Wash ( be it Black wash or Devlan mud ) approach when it comes to table top quality of models.

As a side note, I'd recommend not gluing the turrets to your Rhinos, a lot of them will simply sit/lock on to the top of the Rhinos hatch and not fall off, It makes them easy to store and adds the versatility of the model being used as either a Rhino or a Predator. If you want it to stay, I'd suggest using some cheap magnets, there's some 3mmx3mmx1mm rectangular magnets I use, simply glue one side and apply to the model, when painted it looks like a piece of plating or an armor hatch.

Rod magnets will help with your other models. A similar 3mmx1mm circular magnet for small models and a longer cylinder styled magnet for larger models like dreads or for magnetizing backpacks for jump troops.

Magnets really allow for a lot of possibilities among models, you can create and alter weapon combination's or vehicle choices fairly rapidly and easily.

Keep up the great work!

Here is a taste of what I have been up to. I have moved to 2 completely different 2000pt lists. 1 DC and 1 all comers. I will post more pictures in the near future. Looking forward to hearing what you all have to say. I have basically restarted and have moved towards WYSIWYG. The Vet has storm shield power sword if you were curious. I have a squad of 5 TH in my DC list which I will be posting soon. Still have to make it forum friendly...

Dare I ask what the 4000 pts list is?

The blue wings on the vanguard vet look ace. Where's the shield from btw?

Its 2 lists. My 2000 pt death company list and the list posted above. I picked up the shield from one of my friends in a bits buy. He picked it up from scibor.

8 months from starting this blog, I have 4688 points of now wysiwyg Blood Angels. As soon as I find my battery charger for my Nikon, I will take updated pictures of my WIP pics. I am currently painting my army for the upcoming APOC game at the end of the month. Here's a teaser pic of my battle foam box.
